Anyone been ice fishing ML yet this season? Awfully quiet in here…
I’d imagine once the resorts open up for vehicle traffic, some reports will show up. But I agree, very quiet on this ML forum
I fished the west side once at ice up before the rainstorm that opened it back up. Ended up with a goose egg.
Had a buddy go out with 4 guys total, including a guide last week. Fished hard for 6 small fish on the east side
Maybe not much help, but last weekend I drove past the west side on hwy 169 and there were not many houses out there at all. Maybe 20 total along that whole stretch from rocky reef to Garrison. And all of them were quite close to shore. In fact I didn’t even see an ATV or snowmobile out there either.
Been out 3 times. Have done decent. Early mornings have been best. A lot of snow in the area and not a lot of ice. Been finding water slush on some smaller lakes in the area. See if this cold firms some things up.
Hiya!
I was up on the 31st out of Red Door. Started out deep on Resort flat for the morning (was fishing by 9:00 A.M. after the drive up from the cities) and managed one tulibee. Was an interesting process for that one. Followed my bait up to about 3 feet below the ice…it kept circling the bait, then finally turned and hit it. That was in 22 feet of water.
Decided to then move to the first break. Set up in 20 feet and managed a perch quickly, then only 2 17″ walleyes from there on. Enough activity to keep me watchful on the vexilar, but hits were just not happening. Day was getting colder as I stayed, finally left when the heater could not stay running anymore (2 brand new bottles of propane and 3 half-full…ran them all out).
Was hopeful for more fish hitting, but from where I set up, just didn’t happen.
I get into the habit of staying put and that is not very smart…but I was comfortable.
We are going up this weekend. I think out of Rocky Reef. Any reports as of late?
Most of the resorts just started pulling houses this week. They were going to start last week but the snow screwed that up. Small wheel houses will be allowed out by most this weekend. Maybe next weekend or the one after the zoo will start. (wheel house invasion)

They have been letting single axles out with half tons out of Beechside and Rocky for a week now.
So just to be clear gizmo, skid houses are ok but wheel houses are not?
Before we start bickering I understand if people are moving in to close to you as that’s not cool.

Resorts typically will get the resort rentals out first. Then private skid houses from dead storage, then deal with wheelhouse nation. Right now most are still pulling rentals and private skid houses.

Any reports on slush and snow conditions off the plowed roads? Thinking of making a weekend trip this weekend up there out of Hunters. TIA.
