I’ve been thinking about changing out the back hook on my rapala F-7’s and 9’s to reduce the number of fish that have been lost. I was leaning toward trying the VMC cone cut hooks. I also seen the VMC outbarb treble hook. Has anyone used these hooks, is there an advantage to the outbarb? Any tips on hook size and styles would be helpful. Thanks

I’m wondering why you’re thinking the hooks are a problem. Is this a trolling setup or casting & retrieving? Is the rod too stiff? Braided line or mono? Drag too tight or too loose?
Some think the VMC Sure Set hooks are best for trolling. I have no opinion on that.

If this wasn’t an outdoor website your name would be quite interesting whistling

I was so intrigued by your name, I lost focus on the original post. But yes, I picked up a couple Maynards jigging spoons for ice fishing this past winter and they had those outbarb hooks. They also do not have have a round bend but slightly squared. I thought they were I bit odd but managed to catch quite few walleye with them. Couldn’t tell if they made any difference. Perhaps just another novelty to catch the fisherman?:?:

The barbarian treble hooks are for super aggressive fish that basically hook themselves on the whole treble. They are easier to unhook once you pry one of the hooks off.
