Repair in scratch on truck cap.

I have a fiberglass truck cap that got a pretty significant scratch on it when going through the carwash. It is about two and half feet long and 1/4-3/8 inch wide. It goes through the clear coat and the gel coat but not into the fiberglass (much). It’s in the middle of the roof so it isn’t really visible. Any suggestions on ways to repair it? Doesn’t have to be perfect but I would like to fix it. The auto body place quoted me well over $1000 to fix it.

    Thanks.

Not a easy fix. Not if you want it to look good. I’d be talking to the car wash place first and foremost. You can fill it with a resin and paint it but I doubt you will ever get it to match. Id be more worries about how all the clear will start peeling if you don’t get it re sealed.

Agree with talking to the wash and making them pay for it. I recall they have signs at most that warn about certain things like visors and other stuff, but didn’t think it includes toppers.

I agree about talking to the car wash…they have insurance for that kinda stuff. You shouldn’t be liable for damage like that.

If they don’t cover it, for something that big you need to sand, fill, prime, paint, clear coat. You could try to get a spray can and match it close as it’s on the roof. They make color match for most auto colors in spray cans.

Get paint from car dealer ship fill it in and call it a day. You will have more if you go to a brushed car wash. Probably not that extreme but…

I second the evercoat repair kit. If you are matching white or black it’s an easier repair. Mixing colors to match are not so easy. I’ve fixed a couple boat undersides with this kit.
