I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just saw a blurb about this in the paper.

2021 Angling licenses expire on Feb 28
Inland water season closes for walleye, sauger, pike, and bass on Feb 28
Overnight fish houses have to be removed by March 6 in the southern half of the state

Just a reminder so you don’t get busted on a violation!

Of all things going up in price fishing licenses are dirt cheap they could double or triple in price and it would still be fair. If they actually used the money for something good and fishing related. What are they 26 bucks?

I agree. We all talk about lack of enforcement and this and that, but if they upped the price they would have a lot more funds. With the whole Covid thing they have had record license sales.

I agree a resident fishing license is a bargain.

Something more states should do is for non-resident licenses be valid for 1 year from date of purchase. Just bought an Ohio license and it is good for 1 year from date of purchase.

So if I came to MN or WI as a non-resident and bought a license to fish in January and wanted to come up in July I would have to buy a 2021 AND a 2022 license. JMO

Good reminder. I have 1 last weekend of fishing planned to chase the toothy critters. After this weekend I’ll have to remember to get the new license if I don’t get it even before this weekend.

I pay half that for a conservation angling license.

I did some math last season and went fishing 32 times between April and October which comes out to 41 cents per outing lol

I havent even considered a conservation license. Are you able to keep anything? Like half the normal limit? I dont tend to keep fish very often and certainly never limits of anything at least not in years.

Oh don’t you worry, there are plenty of crybabies around and they would all whine away if prices go up.
You should see all the biching when some find out they have to buy a road pass from a private resort. Enough tears there to fill up the lakes they are fishing!

It permits me to keep half my daily bag limit. So for example, if the crappie limit is 10, I can keep 5 daily.

If the limit is an uneven number like 5, then my limit is 2. The one situation where it does kind of suck is if the limit is 1. Like usually on Mille Lacs the walleye bag limit is 1, so then my limit is 0. If I fish a border water, the rule still applies.

95% of the time over the past decade I have not kept a fish. I’m just not really interested in keeping them as much as I used to. I do keep a few small pike for pickling but the bag limit on those is already 10, so 5 is plenty.

My primary targeted species are bass and muskies though too, so a conservation license makes sense for me. That may not be the case for anglers who often wish to keep a daily bag limit.

See above BC. I know you bass fish a lot in the open water season so maybe its worth looking into.

I have a few hard core muskie angler friends and they have bought this for years now.

I pay nothing. I have a lifetime Sportsman’s license (fishing and small game) purchased in 2012 before they jacked up the price. I remember the year because when I went to get it I heard of the Parise/Suter signings. It sucks though that I have to get a new paper license each year although now that can be done on the internets plus I need all the stamps each year too.

Technically if you paid a large sum for a lifetime license in 2012, you still paid something. Its just that every time you use it, the cost goes down.
