Just a friendly reminder, if you want to fish on inland waters starting today, you will need a new 2023 angling license.

Beats forgetting and running into the law with an expired angling license.

The fact that fishing licenses and trailer licenses expire at the same time always gets me. It’s always out of mind. For trailers, many of us don’t even have the trailers on our properties right now, and those that do have them stuck in a snowbank somewhere.

I don’t understand that with a lifetime sportsman license I still need to get a paper copy each year. Dumb!!

That is where WI has one up on MN.

WI you can have a WI DNR card. All your licenses are on the card … WI warden can run the card and see it all. Hunting, Fishing, Turkey …

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been checked and told it’s okay to not have a paper license on your person. I don’t carry one and never will. 21st Century

SD allows you to have in stored in your phone.

With the SD fish and game app it gets really easy.
You can buy it right through the app and it’s stored there as well.

It depends on what license it is. You can take a photo of certain licenses such as angling or small game. But anything that requires a site tag such as deer or turkey or bear, you will need the paper copy.

It’s required to have to renew the MN Lifetime (fishing) License so the DNR has the count of how many are fishing. They can’t over charge the general fund ya know.
How many people have passed away that hold the LTL?

An electronic image of the LTL (fishing) is fine with the MN DNR.

Biggest hassle with getting a LTL renewed is finding my wallet to get my drivers license out of it…but it does force me to see when my DL expires.

Agreed, plus to get the lifetime license you need to mail in the application and wait 3 weeks for processing. I was going to buy one this year, but going fishing next weekend, so I’ll buy the usual and wait another year…at least.

Print the receipt for the life time license and you’ll be good until it arrives if your fishing prior.

If you’ve purchased a 2023/24 annual license, there’s no difference in buying a ltl now or next year. The price doesn’t change (you aren’t close to 51 yet are you Werm?)

Yeah, just wasn’t too confident USPS would get it there and the DNR would process payment in a week. Still a ways to go until 51, so I’ll just stick with the usual until next year.

You are partially right the Go Wild card is all you need for inland waters you need paper for rivers flowing into and on great lakes and for border waters . It makes no sense to require both.

Super sports license includes fishing, small game, state trout, waterfowl and pheasant stamps. Choice of firearm, archery or muzzleloader deer license after August 1.

It also includes a pheasant and trout stamp. I don’t know if BC participates in those or not.

Thanks for posting, I couldn’t remember the other 2. I would love to say I’m a pheasant hunter, but I never can find time. I want to, but it’s tough.

yeah i usually get the super sports too although most years i dont use all of the hunting portions of it.

For those of you that use getupside you can find gas stations that sell the license and get money back. Last year i got $10 back on my super sports license using the app
