Remembering AquaJoe

As many of you Sturgeon anglers know, AquaJoe passed away this summer after a battle with cancer. He was member on this site and knew many of you. Joe was a fun loving person who loved sharing his many passions with anyone and everyone who would let him.

I was fortunate enough to marry into the family and know Joe. He convinced many of us in the family to try sturgeon fishing and we will have great memories of our sturgeon trips up to the Rainy each spring as something that we can hold onto and look back on and smile as time goes on.

On Saturday a group of close family and friends got together for a sturgeon outing on the St. Croix as a way of remembering him and doing what he loved to do. It started with lunch at Kahn’s in Bloomington and ended with catching the MN dinosaurs of the deep.

Joe was definitely looking out for us with the perfect fall weather, no wind, and sturgeon being caught. There is no question that for a lot of us, each time we catch a sturgeon, we will be thinking of Joe and wishing he was still here.

Here are a few pictures from the night.

Great tribute. Joe took me sturgeon fishing for the first time, and I went to Rainy with him on a few of his first trips up there. He was a great guy, and he’s missed by many.

This is one of my favorite pics of him. It was an absolute tank of a fish!

I am sadden to hear about Joe and did not know of his passing. I did run into he and his posse on occasion at the Wiggy and on the Rainy river. He was always willing to talk sturgeon.

    Thanks for sharing.
