Dad and I just upgraded the DR’s to Cannon’s from the old Riviera hand crankers. They had been used starting in the 80’s. They had the Black’s brand releases, which still work very well. The new riggers came with Cannon brand relases which are a different style than the Blacks. What is everyones opinions of the Cannon releases? Do they work well? The only advantage I see is that they are on a short piece of cable so you should be able to see a shaker on the line better.

Also, I am considering getting a couple stacker releases, what brand do people like?

Thanks, headed over to Sturgeon Bay in a couple weeks, pretty excited about it

I really hate those Cannon releases. A buddy has them on his Cannon downriggers and the darn things always seem to fall apart. Scotty pinch pad releases for me. The bright green ones with the long nylon attachment “cable”. Adjust the tension by varying the depth of the line in the pad or use the tension clip to really crank it up.
