Reels for your TUCR Commander

Just wondering what reel everyone pairs up with their Commanders? I have a 36 inch with a cork split grip, currently paired up with a 13 fishing wicked long stem. Not a fan of the reel, just put it on because I already had it.

    Thanks

I have a 38” with 8” handle and put a Shimano 1000 Solstace on it. Works great. Well balanced.

The size 20 Okuma reels are a perfect size for that rod. Helios SX is my favorite, but you cant go wrong with a Epixor or Inspira.

I’ve bot Pflueger Supreme 25x on both of mine. I’d recommend making sure you pair it with better reel than you typically use ice fishing given you are targeting bigger fish with the commander.

I really like my Okuma Ceymar c10 on my Commander. Seems to fit the rod nicely. I also really like the Pfluger President size 20. My favorite part is that it is braided line ready, so you don’t need to add any backing to the reel.

Like pat stated the helios SX or I even like the Inspira’s as well now. I run the Shimano Sienna size 500. Love the reel, but for that rod and the bigger fish targeted with it for me at least. I feel like I need more. I am probably going to go with the Inspira’s in size 20 next year.

I am going to be a odd duck here and I really like my 750 Sedona on the Commanders.
    Just a little bigger than a 500.

But I think if you are going new Pat has it spot on with a 20 Helios SX.
Those are some really solid reels.

I use a Shimano Sahara 1000FD and FI on my 32″ and 36″ shack rods and a Shimano Stradic Ci4 2500 on my 38″ hole-hopper. That Stradic is one of my bass fishing reels.

Interestingly, the Stradic 2500 weighs 6.7oz, less than the 7.1oz Sahara 1000FI or, for instance, a Helios SX 20 at 7.1oz. The Sienna 500FD is 6oz, for comparison.

The profile of the Stradic 2500 is very similar to the Sahara 1000, but the Stradic has a much bigger spool. That comes in handy for using fluorocarbon, copolymer, or monofilament lines outdoors. I’m not a big fan of fishing braid when hole-hopping because of how it freezes. I use braid inside the shack more often than not.
