I’m finally gonna pull the trigger on buying a tucr bullwhip and I’m wondering what everyone’s favorite reel is to pair it with? Thanks

I use a Shimano Sedona 1000 on my Bullwhip. Great combo that feels really nice in the hand and fishes smooth. The Sienna 500 is a stout reel for the price too. Lots of guys, including myself, use them. Both reels have a good drag too. Abu Garcia Cardinal SX5’s and SX10’s are also pretty nice reels.

Out of the 3 though, I’d pick the Sedona. I would have gotten the Sedona 500 but at the time of purchase I found a 1000 on sale for $35. Couldn’t pass it up. It also makes for an excellent ultralight reel in the warmer months.

500 size Shimano. Sienna, Sedona, or the really smooth yet overpriced Sahara. The Sienna is pretty much bulletproof for the price. I’m a big fan of Shimano reels.

Okuma Ceymar C-10 is popular on this site because they’re a sponsor. I picked up a couple this season, so I’m not sure about longevity. I’m sure it’ll be fine. Ice reels are used extremely gently compared to open water reels. They feel smooth and solid, and I really like the long reel stem, the grip, and the longer handle.

Unfortunately, with the exception of the Sienna 500FD, Shimano is getting away from the long reel stem in favor of a more compact design that doesn’t work the greatest with ice fishing pencil-grip holds or fishing with gloves.

All in all, the best bet is a Shimano Sienna 500FD for $30 or a Okuma Ceymar C-10 from Amazon for $40.

I have an Abu Icemax. I love the foldable handle and I bought a spare spool so I can use it for multiple species.

Hard to go wrong with a 500 Shimano Sienna or Okuma Ceymar 10. Specs for both reels show 6 oz with most 1000 series Shimanos being a little over 7 oz. For panfish and light to medium walleye use the 500 or 10 sizes are perfect for me.

I use a few Siennas. Nice reels and even better after I upgraded to some carbon fiber drag washers. I got a Ceymar this year too. Also seems nice. Haven’t us used it as much but so far so good.

Ticas have proven pretty solid as well if you find them for a decent price.

I have been using a Abu Garcia Revo S10 for almost 4yrs now and it has caught on the BW everything from 36in Northern Pike to 6lb bass lol I know the bull whip is my panfish rod and I use it as such but why not have a reel that can handle anything! Heck my first big fish on my bullwhip was my PB Walleye yay yay yay yay That reel has handled every fish FLAWLESSLY!

I’ve got a Ceymar C-10 on my bullwhip and am happy with it. I have a Shimano (Saraha?) 500 on my Precision and am happy with that. Overall, I probably like the C-10 a little better because it is more compact, but you can’t go wrong with either.

I know everyone here really likes the Siennas and other 500 size reels but has anyone thought about using a 1000 size just for that little extra for fighting the big fish?

This might or might not help change your minds?
