Just curious to hear what reels people are using for the legend tournament walleye rods. I’m one of few who love the split cork handle, but the rod is a little tip heavy. I ordered a shimano sedona 2000 and it feels terrible on this rod and very tip heavy. That is an 8.8 oz reel, and i figured i would need a heavier reel. I put a president reel on which was 8.3 oz and it felt a little better. So I’m wondering if a lighter reel would help or if i need to go heavier than 8.8 oz to get a good balance point. I read a few people saying that a 10 oz reel balances perfect, but a few other say to just go with the lightest one. If you have this rod, I would love to hear what you have on it. Thanks in advance!

I have a LTW 6’6″ jig/rig and use a 25 size Pflueger and love it!

The length would come into play to balance it out. I am running with LXS68MXF paired with a shimano stradic CI4 2500 and it is balanced very well.

What length and Power is it? Anything over 6’6″ I go with size 30 Pflueger or similar.

LT always felt tip heavy to me. Throwing a heavy ars reel on a very light rod to balance out seems counterintuitive. I’d opt for a reel of choice and weights in the butt of rod. Will get away with less weight and the balance ultimately helps with wrist fatigue.

Pfluegers IMO balances rods out better with smaller reels. Their balance point seems to be back further than shimanos of comparable size.

Make sure to post of your results. Always curious what others find best for them.

The rods are a 6’6 MLF and a 6’8 MXF, both LTW. I’ve got a few reels in mind to try out. I like the idea of getting a light reel that feels good, then putting weights on the butt. I will def post results of what I decide to go with. Thanks for the help guys

I’d opt for … weights in the butt of rod.

    How do you do that?

Well, easy cheap way are washers taped to the butt end. Or lead pancake weights, etc.

I’d definitely opt out for a reel that balances. Weights are last resort.

Bring the rod in to store and try until you find one.

I’m hoping I’ll find a reel that pairs up nicely. Def would rather not use butt weights if I didn’t have to, but does anyone know if the FUJI EWBC butt caps just slid on or do they screw into the handle?

Butt caps last resort. Look for a reel that has its weight towards the back, typically the handle is the variable here. Even a reel with the drag on the bottom helps alot.

Quite a few vids out there of pros with them. But IMO they probably are just stuck to the rod/reel combos that sponsors them and so have to use the weights. You have no brand restrictions.
