What kind of reel to pair up with my new bullwhip?

Okuma CBF 500, or Shimano Sienna 500.

I’m partial to the Sienna as well. I use it on almost all my ice rigs.

I have used the Pfluger president 20, Sienna 500, and Ceymar 10. I prefer the Ceymar. It feels higher quality than the sienna, and the Pfluger isn’t as adept for the freezing weather. The Ceymar is the perfect fit. And less importantly, though still important, the Ceymar looks great on the Bullwhip.

You’d be really surprise at how much better a rod is when paired up with a nice reel.

I bought a Ceymar last year. I do like it – very nice reel. But I’ll also say the Shimano Sienna 500 works very well too and is cheaper and easy to find locally in many stores.

I feel like either is a great option. I did buy a sheet of Carbontex to make drag washers for my Siennas last year and it improved them even more.

I just recently purchased the Piscifun ICX 5 Ice Fishing Reel. Has a lot of features for a $30 reel. 5+1 bearings, foldable handle and carbon fibre drag washer and over sized reel spool. Even comes with a couple extra washers. I haven’t used it yet so I can’t speak to that but it’s super smooth reeling action seems great. Seems well built and it’s darn sexy looking! I got a Precision coming from TUCR I might hang it on that.

My favorite workhorse reel is the Sedona. I tried the Ceymar and didnt like it. The drag didnt feel smooth.

I have Siennas on pretty much all my ice rods. Pretty hard to beat for $30 a pop especially when you upgrade the washer…..
