What would make a reel, reel hard? No grinding at all, just have to dog on it. Really weird, happened once already, took it apart relubed, checked bearings, gears, debris, sand, nothing there, worked fine for several outings. Doing it again, extremely frustrating.

What kind of reel is it ?
I have had some issues with Shimano reels and their rubber band ring getting streatched out and torn.

Update on this thing. The second time I took it apart I was wondering if straight hotsauce was possibly a bad thing. Put it on last winter for use and didn’t think about it. Got some reel butter(grease) hit that on all the gears and sauce on the bearings and she’s smoother than out the box.

With that said I haven’t fished much since then, and that rod specifically that has the reel hasn’t been out half that due to microguides freezing up. Time will tell. But i will say I’ll be doing the same to all reels, they are much smoother with grease than the sauce.
