Hey guy what’s the easiest way to get the reel bands on a split grip TUCR? I bought some from Cold Snap Outdoors but the tool doesn’t fit over the cork on the end. Thanks for any advice.

The castration bands? Castration bander. Worked for my TUCR split grip. Could try a bait shop, they might have one. Or if you know someone who has cattle.

How do you think those little rubber bands get over them big bull nuts… )

    I prefer tape.

Get a long oil funnel. Cut off the bottom and stick the rod in it and roll the bands on.

You can use a funnel shaped device (easily made from soda bottle) and roll them up onto the handle.

Stepped away from my computer in mid post and got beat to it by Belletaine, sorry for a double up.

Damn, I just ordered some online. Didn’t think I would need to get a castration tool, especially since it says the re-did the funnel so it would go over split grips.

i would use a funnel or possibly some pvc pipe if you have it laying around. a funnel is really only gonna run you 2 or 3 bucks. i do like the cold snap reel wraps on my TUCRs. they hold extremely tight and dont budge. i dont have any experience with the tape though

In my experience, the best way is to transfer the bands from some object where they are already stretched, then on to the cork.

Personally, I’ve found that an intermediate step of putting the castration bands on my ‘charlie browns’ has been an easy way to ‘stretch them out’ a bit. Then you just rooollll them off onto the cork(of the rod, not your linus).

My method has the beneficial side effect of complete sterility as well!

My bands came with the red cone tool. Instead of going from the butt end of the rod like with a normal grip, on the split grip I just slide it down the rod and go from the other way.

CraP! lol I actually just looked and totally forgot about the guides. NEVERMIND! I am contemplating this same thing.

I just tried it I used the cone tool in the kit and got 4 rings in the split area of the rode. I managed with a big of force to get the rings on the cork actually pretty easy.

I used my fingers to spread the band over the split grip last night. That was tough but I really wanted to test out the new reel with it! So far I really like the bands. They secure the reel really well and it doesn’t move around. Cold Snap ended up sending me a few extra packages too, so I’ll be giving them away cause they enough bands in each for a few rods and reels.
