The Red Wing bridge project will be started to remove the old bridge this week starting with the bridge sides.
They recommend boaters to pay attention to the USCG notices.
Unfortunately if a person doesn’t have a marine radio or receive the USCG’s Local Notice to Mariners, I’m thinking most fishermen will not be aware of this. I’m sure when larger sections come down, there will be boats near the bridge to warn or stop travel under the bridge, however there was at least once last fall when a large piece of plywood fell into the water below.
They are planning on having the removal of the old bridge done before the 2020 navigation season, but we all know the fishermans season starts in March for the most part.
Just a reminder to look up while the bridge is coming down.
