I heard that too, but didn’t get any of the specifics. From the pictures on TV it looked like it was down by Baypoint.

It was Baypoint, a officer was involved and there was also a car wreck. They did not have anymore details on the news that I caught.

Apparently the officer responded to a call and found a guy walking/running away from the scene. A shot was fired, again apparently, by the officer. The officer was seen and released at a hospital and whoever got shot was still there last night at 10 news time.

RED WING, Minn. – A deputy shot and wounded a man in a Red Wing park Tuesday afternoon following a car crash.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy found a vehicle damaged from a crash in Bay Point Park just after 1 p.m. He saw a man walking away from the crash, and called Red Wing police for assistance.

Before officers arrived, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says “a struggle ensued and the deputy shot the man.”
Diners at Kelly’s Tap Bar & Grill watched the incident unfold from the booths near the window that overlook the park. Mitchell Anderson is the manager.

“Someone yelled, ‘There’s a fight!’ So I ran over, and at that time they were on the ground rolling around,” Anderson said. “The cop got up off the ground. We saw him draw his weapon as the guy was continuously like walking towards him. And then the guy just dropped down … I don’t know if a Taser would’ve even done anything, the guy was very large.”

The man is being treated at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester and the BCA says he is expected to survive.

The deputy suffered minor injuries in the encounter and was treated and released from an area hospital.

The BCA, which is leading the investigation, says there is no body camera or dash cam footage of the encounter.

I won’t past judgement or speculate but I will say thanks that the officer will be at home for Thanksgiving.

” I don’t know if a Taser would’ve even done anything, the guy was very large.”

They just HAD to bring that word into the conversation didnt they….

Any man armed with a sidearm better seriously think about using it if persistently and viciously attacked or they are going to take it and use it on you. You, me, cop, no difference.

The officer was cunning enough to turn off their body camera and dash camera before getting out of the squad car. No second guessing this shooting.

Do you know that is the case, or speculation? There is a chance the smaller town doesn’t have a body cam. If he did shut it off that would be idiotic in broad daylight in town. You know there will be a camera or someone watching filming.

And………………. they have body cam footage of the Pelosi Hammer event… yet nobody sees it. Its so wonderful to pick and choose when its relevant to let the public see. Any guesses on that one for you since you got this one all figured out already ? smirk

So few details have been shared, it’s way too early to speculate one way or another here.

Red Wing, although not a very large city, is a rough place for its size. Drugs and violence are disproportionally large issues there compared to cities the same size. The public schools have vacant, full-paid (with benefits) teaching positions that don’t receive a single application.

Yeah, it’s not the only source of problems but that 61 corridor is a kind of connection for a lot of things between Minneapolis and Chicago. A little more under the radar than the interstates. I went to school in Winona and then lived there for a few years after graduation. Beautiful town, just like Red Wing, but it has a shadier side. Getting to know a few of the local cops, they told me that a lot of it is related to drug (and other) trafficking between Chicago and Minneapolis. Gangs have safe-houses and bases of operation in some of those smaller towns along the highway.

A lot of casino money in that town with a lot of younger people collecting paychecks that have never had to work and A lot of them end up in drugs and trouble.

Where does it say the officer was cunning enough to turn off anything. It simply says there was no body or dash camera footage of the incident.

Good point. It did not occur to me that Goodhue county would not have body and dash cameras in November 2022.

Much like a bunch of people here jumped to wrong conclusions when the Cold Spring shooting happened a few years ago it’s best to let the law and courts sort things out.

Wait, this happened in front of a diner?

What are we waiting for, if every waiter, waitress, hostess, bartender, line cook, and dishwasher was armed, they’d be able to stop these things from happening. Think of all the police officer’s lives we’d be protecting!

Yawn, another police shooting with no body cam. Water is wet, sky is blue, paid vacation for officer upcoming, paid for by me and you.

I’d encourage you to apply to be an officer. It would give people more insight. You could affect change directly on your end.

Agreed. In the age of everyone having a video camera on their phone and social media, many people think that all information is immediately available and draw unwarranted conclusions.

i have witnessed some shady $hit loading my boat in the evenings of both Baypoint and Colvill over the last couple years. both parks seem like a great place for mischief. armed only with a filet knife and golf balls, i may need to step my game up?

I launch my boat in the dark most morning in the spring and fall. Many times I’m alone waiting for clients to show up. I usually carry less that $100.00 cash on me when I’m fishing so it’s not about loosing my money, it’s about my truck, boat, and all my equipment..basically my livelihood and how long it would take to replace it all, well into the $150,000 range. One of the many reason I have a conceal carry permit and ready to use it only at last resort. So far so good, but if I see a vehicle pulling into a ramp at 3am with no boat trailer and its not my clients I get suspicious very fast..things can happen anytime anywhere. I agree, I’m thankful the Officer is able to celebrate Thanksgiving today!!

Sheesh guys if you think red wing is a shady town it’s not, sure there’s some shady people but they are all over these days. What ever happened down there was pretty isolated, not gang bangers or anything like that. I would launch my boat there at any time of day any day of the week.

Having an insurance policy seems like a better option. I also have a conceal and carry but I don’t plan to protect a truck or boat with it. They can have it and I’ll pay the deductible vs the attorney bills in a civil case. Sidearm is only if I feel I’m in bodily danger.
