Going up to red Lake with our wheelhouse for the first time on Sunday. Does anyone recommend a certain access? I was looking at Hillmans, Rogers, or JR’s. Anyone been up there lately that can recommend one? Curious how the fishing has been off the various roads?

Rogers and Jrs have roads out to center bar. East side has been slower it seems based on reports. As always, get away from other people and you will do better.

Always had good luck out of West Wind. Ussualy good roads, nice bait shop. Very nice bar & restuarant, and good shower faclities if staying an extended period.
JR’s and Rogers are also good choices.

JR’s has always been great for me. I really like their facilities and the staff are nice. Don’t speed on his roads, he doesn’t take kindly to that. Went to Rogers once last year and all the great reviews got me excited but they weren’t the friendliest of people and it took me a good half hour to get bait. It was mid-week and it was pretty dead in there. Other that that, their facilities are also nice. Westwind and Beacon harbor are also good. Great food at Westwind!

I really like using Greater MN Rental(GMNR) as an access point. To the west of GMNR about a mile is Rogers and all of the traffic it provides. Several miles to the east is West Winds and all of its traffic. GMNR is kind of hidden between the two which results in more elbow room once on the lake.

We did pretty good last week fishing from GMNR getting our 3 keepers each morning without much effort. My son even caught a 13″ crappie.

Been out of West Wind and JR’s. Both treated me well. Both have nice facilities. West Wind is more of an all season resort with a few more amenities on shore, but that isn’t really a deciding factor for me since I tend to stay on the ice until its time to go home. JR’s is a smaller organization with a little more personal touch. From my perspective, you can’t go wrong with either one.
