Red Lake, what do you like for sunshine?

Was wondering if anyone has seen a correlation between sunny days and cloudy days for success on Red Lake?

It seems to me, nothing documented, but cloudy days are better than sunny days. The sunny days are good with lots of snow cover IMHO.

    Whats ever one else’s thoughts?

I was just up there and we did better on cloudy days. IMO with a lake that shallow you want cloudy not sunny. Red lakes water is pretty stained but still you are only fishing in 7-13 ft.

I agree that I think cloudy days are better. I was up there a number of years ago, just after the walleyes opened back up, on a gorgeous calm, bright sunny, February day and it was my worst day I’ve had there.

Keep in mind that bright sunny days are commonly associated with high pressure.

I see where you’re going with this and I’d be interested in the answer as well. I think you’d also want to know what the pressure is to get a better understanding of what really relates to success.

Its important in the summer but not as much in the winter. I’ve had good luck and bad luck on both light conditions. I think its more of a matter of adjusting your jigs, use bright colors like gold on sunny days and florescent on dark days. I am wary of having too much light in the house at night.

Last weekend was slow in the mornings and pretty decent in the late afternoon out of Hilmans. We did not try fishing at night.
