this year i would like to store my shack at a resort on red lake. ive never been to any of the resorts there. what are your guys favorites as far as service, road maintenance, bait and etc. a shower every couple days would be nice but i can always drive to another resort and pay to use there showers if needed. i was leaning towards rogers and getting a season road pass. any suggestions? thanks toast

Beacon Harbor sells seasonal passes and restricts the amount of people out. Hillmans has the biggest longest road.
West wind has the Restaraunt and showers.
Rogers and JR are probably the most popular and most busy. Haven’t been out of Morts Dock in several years.

I dont like fishing out of Rodgers personally. Hillmans is great but its bare bones. They keep the road decent and thats it. Rodgers is always so busy same with west wind.

Well I gave beacon harbor a call and spoke with a lady, she was very nice (assuming she was the owner) she said they only store 100 fish houses a year and allow to you use there roads and they are already full for the year doah

I asked her if there is a resort she recommended and she said morts resort. She said they are a lot less busy than the other ones

My question is why red? Where re u located. If you are driving from the metro why wouldn’t you continue to lotw. I only like red for early ice. Then I think its not that much of a destination. Especially to stay put there all year.
If its for a central hub area to keep miles off the shack I get it. But at that point dont over look the small lakes in the same region

I too would choose UPRL. I think he wants maintained roads for a house so smaller lakes in the region are no go. more chances of quality eyes and the chance at a trophy crappie. the lake is shaped like a bowl so the fish hunt like ninjas at low light hours anywhere on that lake so moving is not necessary, getting away from others is. night bite is fantastic if you are into that. they say there are no trophy eyes in there but I have personally seen some of the biggest eyes caught at night and I mean late, late at night. it does slow down come Feb like all over the state but the crappie bite can be amazing in March.
that lake spoiled me for life and I haven’t been there in years. problem is it is 7 hours for me. retirement can’t come soon enough!

Coming from Rochester so red is about 50 miles closer. We normally fish lotw but I can tell you fishing there is not lights out fishing every time and It has its slow times also. And to pull the shack back and forth to Rochester every trip doesn’t make since. like eyeguy507 mentioned most smaller lakes are not plowed. If fishing at red was complete garbage I could always move to lotw some days if wanted
