I heard this was reported by a fellow fisherman who spoke to the guy out on the ice. To my knowledge it’s not being reported from any of the resorts
Danny form Outdoor Authority just posted a video on FB, White out conditions stopped the search for now, not found yet.

I just saw a post about it on Fb. They are looking for a teal suzuki samurai.

Obviously those are popular early ice towing machines, but I did see quite a few that color staged by Rogers last weekend.
There were some conflicting reports about rescues being deployed on Lower Red relating to this missing vehicle…which I would presume are completely separate issues?
Thanks for sharing. Sounds like they were able to track him for a while, but I hope he just stops at some point so something really bad doesnt happen. Sometimes its just best to sit and wait it out. I would have thought they had walkies or something but maybe hes out of range now.
Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office reports that the subject of the search has been found safe.

That’s good news.
I was up there a few years ago when that young man and his girlfriend went out too far at night and went in on their wheeler. Awful feeling being up there when something like that happens. Certainly puts a damper on the trip. Glad they were found safe this time.
I’m not sure how to post something from Facebook, but the Suzuki was found by Jonny Petrowske of Red Lake Remote.
Piece mailing this story. This man was very lucky.
Learning lesson for him and the resort.

We talked to him yesterday, he said he was good. Just needed a break. He didn’t realize they would send a search and rescue.

So what the hell happened if you care to share. Did he work for Rogers?
Needed a break?
Wasn’t he on the north end and broken through a thin area.
I heard he got stuck on a crack or pressure ridge. Needed a break? Not sure about that one glad it turned out on a positive note.

I’m sure he is embarrassed to say what happened. Got lost and turned around, ended up stuck. Don’t shoot me I just talked to him. He is one of the guys I go up to Red with, his good buddy.

I bet, but the good thing is he is fine.
What is the ice thickness in the area he got stuck. Hard to believe there is enough safe ice yet to even attempt to drive any auto ( Don’t care how small ) Sounds like he’s now new to fishing up there. I would think he would have know better. OH well – Glad it all ended well for him.

There were trucks out when I was there last week. We left and there was over 9 inches. But we found a spot with 4. He works through Rodgers not for Rodgers. When we left a local had a half ton new chevy with bigger skid house behind him.
Dude was pulling single axle fish houses on/off the lake out of Rogers resort. Pulled my buddy and I off the lake an hour or two before he went missing. After we got the permanent off we went back out on snowmobile to fish one more night. Kept hearing a loud motor running and I told my buddy that that kinda sounds like an airboat. Sure enough when we got back to the landing there was a whole slew of first responders that asked us some questions and an airboat was out looking for him. Visibility was very poor out there as it was super foggy that night. I’m not sure why he was missing so long and why he never got a hold of anybody. A lot of questions.
Appears to be either poor employee training or someone ignoring the training ??
If cell phones don’t work, then a 2-way radio and a simple GPS would have been helpful to get back in low vis conditions or if travel too risky because of ice conditions … park and wait …
Communications are key here … of course if an employee goes missing and communications lost – S&R will be called … should anyone expect anything less ??
If he really “just needed a break and went driving” vs. breaking rules and getting lost … I would suggest the guy get a little professional counseling, but in most circles of trust that subject is often just too taboo.
Think of the cost and time for all the S&R to be mobilized for this ? Well I suppose it could be racked up as a training mission too.
A good lesson for everyone to learn from. Always make sure you’re prepared for the worst. It may never happen but if it does, you’ll be happy to have a few extra items that may save your life. Or if you’re in doubt, just stay put.

Wow. I did not realize that they were even close to driving autos out yet. Even on a lake as far north as Red. I use to push the limit when I was younger. Not anymore. Like i said I’m glad it all turned out OK
