Take this for what its worth. NOAA is forecasting a warm trend for most of December.

Of course 2020 would give us one more “F you” before the year is over. COVID already ruined my March 2020 Winnipeg trip and 2021 isn’t looking much better at this point. So it would only be par for the course it also screws with the local ice season.

Lol you guys. I like my neighbors and their kids. Good drinking buddies (the adults). Funny thing though, they keep asking if I’ve seen their cat.

What cat, you had a cat?!? whistling

Some people will end up going for a ride Sunday, that’s almost guaranteed. That sheet is moving now with a 6-7mph wind. Rogers posted another video of it moving later tonight. 15-20mph on Sunday will be interesting.

Will a 20mph wind do more than keep it tight though? Would it start stacking it on shore at a decent clip? We will find out soon enough!

I’m headed up for a week. Bringing the atv. If I can use it that’ll be a bonus if not then we will hike. North shore and beacons I believe had multiple atvs out yesterday.
I’d rather drag it up and not use it then wish we had it.

Under the comments it says those were workers out checking ice (7 inches) and that they are only allowing foot traffic. Also “1000 of people are already coming up”

Temp and wind reports look a little sketchy for that. Things look a lot better early next week. I still have a tentative plan of Rogers’ next weekend

Beacon just said they will not let people out this weekend……can always use the public launch if you are really set to go for a swim. Weather has not been great this year, if you go out be careful…..or wait a week, or find a smaller lake with better ice

How far out do you have to walk out from shore to get to fishing areas on Red?

    Just curious.

Last year first ice we camped for 4 days. Had well over 700 fish between the 5 or 6 of us. I could care less about the keepers. For us its the guys getting together having our weekend. This will be year 9 for us. Typically we fish today but with families and getting older we leave late Thanksgiving.
Everyone gets to tell there deer stories drink beer. Be away from the wives. Have a great time and catch tons of fish. Thats what its about. Not our 3 fish. But we eat those as well

You guys must be thinking the ice will break up? If there’s 7 inches I would think the locals would be pulling out smaller (6×8) skid houses with atv’s. 7 is a lot of ice.

As of now, no atvs being let out from resorts due to the floating sheet and wind

Good luck, Ron! Send us a report when you get back. If the ice holds over the weekend I’m going to try and get up there middle of next week.

You forgot to mention if you or anyone else is walking out today to fish.

Not sure what the forecast is for that area tomorrow but for here in the Mille Lacs area the high tomorrow will be in the mid 40’s with south wind. Come Sunday with the cool down, wind switches out of the NW.

Heading up Sunday-Tuesday. No problem walking out, and fingers crossed for atv travel to at least bring the gear out to the inside/shoreline crack. With the wind and somewhat warmer weather, thinking it’s not gonna happen. Stay safe everyone!
