We fished out of becon harbor Sunday. There was 14 inches and they were letting half ton trucks out. Fishing was slow. 6 guys, 5 fish. No rattle reels all night long. Good luck.
14″ or so out of JRs. Fishing was slow, about a dozen walleyes for the three of us over two days. Every fish but maybe one or two came on dead sticks, the fish had a definite preference for rainbows over shiners or fatheads. We had a variety of hooks/jigs on, but small jigs or plain hooks seemed to be best. Two jumbo perch and a 28″ pike rounded out the trip.
Slow for us also last weekend but we did find out from the DNR guy at the access that the houses out toward Center were doing much better than most of us who went towards the rockpile. Lots of fish on the Vex but wouldn’t bite. Overnight rattle reels were 2 fish in 2 nights. Colder than a B…. with that wind out there.
Last weekend there were literally hundreds of trucks with houses out on the ice. 15″ or so inches across the board. Did well in 13 FOW but also ventured to the ridge just south of the center bar and did very well. Pulled in a nice 19″ eye on a deadstick right at sundown. It had about 8′ of thin mono line and a Clam Caviar Jig broken in its mouth. Popped my hook and that jig out and let it swim away. Dropped down my bonus jig and it did well. The smaller the better right now.
We rented a house from JR’s on Saturday and got 16 fish in 24 hours. 5 were on buckshot spoons and 11 on rattle reels. Best color was glow pink and I agree the fish wanted rainbows over fatheads.
I was out of Rogers Thurs-Sat, most of our fish were caught on either glow pink or glow red. Fat heads and rainbows both produced well, and shiners on tip ups and rattle reals produced a few.
Just got back from Rogers… I have a 3/4 ton and 20ft Ice Castle… No problems at all… great landing and road was plowed a long ways out… we set up just past 4 miles from Rogers in 14ft and caught plenty of fish until the cold snap shut us down a bit but we still caught fish, just had to work for em’
