Just finished off another fantastic 8 days at Red Door. I’ve met the new owner a few times, and he seems to be invested in the resort and is making some nice improvements. I think this was our 4th trip to Red Door this year.

Fishing was good, considering it was early August. Spinners and crawlers were by far the hot ticket, with most fish being found well off any structure. The evening bobber bite was “ok”. Most fish would come in a flurry between 730-830 and then die down. Swimbaits were also doing well early and late.

The pike fishing was the only disappointment. I trolled spoons and super shad raps East to Castaways and west to Myr Mar without even a snake. Same time last year the pike were going nuts along the first break line/weed line. Deep side, shallow side…didn’t matter. Oh well.

Great trip to wrap up my summer.

Good report Brian. I like the Red Door Resort. We had a family reunion there about 10 years ago and I enjoyed it. I would stay there again.

Well, there it is again. Where the walleye’s are.

And I’ve had the exact experience pike fishing as you had, same method, same trolling run.

One time, 3 in an hour. Another time, none in 3 days. mad

They were snapping a couple weeks ago, or so I heard. whistling

Thanks for the report, good to see some fish being caught during your trip.

    Good report Brian.
Fished lead core again this past weekend. Trying a few different things out this year with color. Saturday landed 26 from 11-6. Sunday was flat calm and sunny skies landed 19 from 2-8. Have the kiddo with so fishing times are whenever he feels like going. Fish are starting to fatten up pretty good. Caught several that the wife was like wow that thing is chunky. Reef runners were the ticket for me in some really strange colors I never fished Mille lacs with before. Anything with white on the body seemed to catch some. Again not fishing near any structure. Not my favorite way to fish but effective and easy with a just turned 4 year old in the boat. He has been picking som good color combos lately. Second weekend in a row he has out fished me.
Hey kiddo send the line out till the line turns orange. Dad the real is making that funny sound again I think we got one should I real it in?
