Red Door or Fishers Ice Conditions Tomorrow 1/1

Hi All,

We are considering heading up to Mille Lacs early tomorrow AM and are looking for current ice reports. I called a few resorts but wasn’t able to get a hold of anyone.

I am looking to fish the sand out of Malmo and possibly venture out to some of the mud flats.

How much ice is currently in these areas? Are the resort roads or public accesses open to truck traffic? Any idea what time either of these resorts open?

Any input is much appreciated!

14″ last Sunday is what I measured, but the ice has been shifting a lot. There are massive heaves across the north side and a second opening closer to shore this time.

Castaways is your easiest path to get out to the Malmo sand. I believe their road is open for all traffic.

Thanks for the info! Tried to get on at Castaways before they opened and I think the ice shifted because I couldn’t find a way on around the first ridge.

Ended up getting on at Barnacles a few miles down the road. We didn’t have nearly the action you gentlemen had a few weeks back, @MalmoMafioso. We moved out a bit further during the day and found some small eyes as well as a few perch. One big jumbo mixed in. Got one kicker big northern to close out the trip up on top of the shallow sand in the evening.

I was up there today, went out off of Garrison. Measured around 16″ of ice. Wasn’t a bad day, until the front came through in the early afternoon (it came out of nowhere ).
