Recomendations for cranks (northern/musky)?

Since the walleye ban is on, I need to pick up some heavier duty lures to focus on northern or possibly a musky.
    I plan on trolling…

I saw the recent report from Will using Super Shad Raps, any another other recommendations/sizes?

Would it be worthwhile to pick up a large musky top water bait or something? Never caught one before, but watched a guy net a 52″ last weekend and would like the oportunity.

Trolling Dare-Devils worked last weekend. Red/White and Black/White.

Not sure if you want to go down this road. You will empty your bank account if you get hook on musky fishing. I have never trolled a top water bait. Not saying that it can’t be done but I don’t know of anyone who has. Shad raps and Grandmas are some good classic trolling crank baits that are not too expensive (well compared to the cost of musky baits). Make sure to use a good leader.

I have plenty of SR7’s and a couple SR8’s, I just felt I need some larger baits to target these bigger fish but maybe that is not the case. I am just looking to pick up a few lures, not looking to go all in as I primarily fish eye’s.

I will pick up a couple dare devils.

Get a few Grandma’s or Jake’s. Good musky bait and will also pick up Pike for you.

Jakes and Grandmas are going to be your best bet for a reasonable price.

I also would not overlook trolling bucktails and spinnerbaits in the weeds……

    hemi:

Lots of things make good musky trolling baits and the above baits mentioned are all very good choices.

As for trolling topwaters, I beleive the first year we were fishing on the north end we were tired from a long and I trolled a topwater on the shallow side and a deep diver on the the break of the norths shore weeds west of Wealthwood landing. I actually had a fish hit the orange full sized Church trolling board and not the tailrotater topwater behind it…

So the moral of the story, find something large, flat and orange that floats!!!
