Reckless Vikings Draft Speculation Thread

I’m a big fan of the NFL draft, love the mock drafts, trade speculation, etc…

Still almost 3 months away, but what do you think the Vikings will do this draft? We CURRENTLY own the following picks (24, 97, 140 and 161) so in reality, the odds of trading back on one or a few of those picks to acquire more picks is likely…

Here’s a free and simple mock draft website – https://www.profootballnetwork.com/mockdraft

The consensus top 4 needs for the Vikings seem to be some combination of (DT/CB/OL/RB) They also have like 70 million in capspace to spend, so they will likely plug some of those holes via Free Agency…

I think they trade back 2 times in the 1st round acquiring 4-5 additional picks and make their 1st pick somewhere in the mid/late 30’s, take the best DT/OL/RB available…then keep filling holes with BPA at positions of need…it wouldn’t surprise me if they took one of the top 3 RB’s that will likely slip and if they could somehow steal a OL like NDS Grey Zabel in the late 3rd or 4th round that would be awesome…

    Go ahead and speculate…

Not a Vikings expert, but I think your guesses seem fairly logical with trading back to get more “shots” at finding the right pieces. They have a ton of cap space but also have quite a few free agents to make decisions on.

Kwesi will screw it up regardless. Pick a bust or trade back for 12 7th rounders just like slick rick.

You can say he hasn’t drafted well but he didn’t exactly sit back and trade back like slick rick this past year.

I think needs are Interior OL/CB currently. The rest can easily be plugged in free agency.

I think a lot of their offseason strategy is going to revolve around Harrison Smith and whether he returns or not. If he retires they have even more cap space, but a need at Safety that I anticipate them resigning Bynum for (and at quite a bit less than the Hitman makes). If Smith returns, Bynum is gone and their ability in FA is slightly diminished.

As far as the draft I’m not sure exactly for who, but I believe they may have some compensatory pics coming too. Even with that, they just don’t have the pick volume to move around too much. I anticipate them staying put or moving back for extra picks and addressing positions of need at CB and OL. Good news is there is usually some good value at both positions later in the draft.

And I will continue to bang the drum that the draft sucks now that it’s spread over a whole weekend. No sense tuning in for 4 hours just to see them trade out of that round. I loved spending a whole day watching the draft, and was a good reason to have breakfast, lunch and dinner at Howies Downtown back in the day! rotflol

I just read that the 24 Vikes were the oldest team in the NFL. They better draft well.

My mockdraft exercise this morning, i’d love to see this draft happen, made 1 trade with Jacksonville giving up 24 to get an early 2nd & 3rd rounder…

I just read that the 24 Vikes were the oldest team in the NFL. They better draft well.

Not only that, but the final 8 teams playing in the postseason were in the top 10 youngest team category as well. Not saying that’s a deal-breaker, but when you’ve got very little to show for the past 3 drafts, you’re not going to have as much youth on your roster.

I think a lot of their offseason strategy is going to revolve around Harrison Smith and whether he returns or not.

I was also going to basically say a lot of their draft will likely depend on who leaves in free agency, and who they’re able to sign with their decent amount of cap space.

As it sits today on Jan 31, my first vote would be CB. It’s a possibility that the Vikes return exactly 0 members of their secondary return, creating a huge amount of holes. So I’d prefer CB, some combination of D-Line/O-line and maybe a RB in the later rounds or even a UDFA.

Come to think of it, we still don’t know what punishment Addison may face. I was big on Naelor for awhile and he’s still ok(?) as WR3 but if Addison misses time there’s a huge drop-off from the best receiver in football to whoever WR2 would be.

I do not understand the fascination with mock drafting. I’ll leave drafting to the experts.
