Recent Bite?

I’m going to be launching tomorrow evening out of Boom Site and could fish either up or down river. Any news on what’s working? We don’t really care what we are fishing for – just like bending rods and fish in the net…

Not asking for your spots, but some depth ranges? Overall bite trends (plastics/live bait/cranks)?

Water level is on the rise. Might make fishing a little challenging. Look for current seams on the shorelines and down river side of islands. If nothing else is working maybe some bottom rigs with a crawler or minnow.

Right on. Thanks for the info. I’ll post a report tonight or tomorrow based on what we experience.

There’s a fair chance you will catch fish just because I stored my boat last weekend and cant fish the Croix any more this season!!

Scratched out a few for the box earlier, then the rain came and shut er down for me. Fussy a$$ fish today, orange #4 hook with half a crawler. They’d hold on to it without the typical whack, had to feel them before they felt you and give em line.

15-18′ on the break near a point or inside turn. Clam beds were the ticket, glad I pulled up a few otherwise thought it was just gravely.

Trust your electronics, they’re starting to school up toast

Prior to the rain fall the bite has been decent. Catching a mix bag of Walleyes, Crappies, Whitebass and Smallies. Half a limit of walleyes at best for a few hours of fishing, but losing too many fish after hookup. Last week I picked up a flathead mixed in with two dandy walleyes. With the high water the bite will definitely get better! Good Luck!

After being absent from the river I finally made it out last night from 1600-1830, calling it fun would be an insult. Between two guys we picked up a 2 man limit of walleyes along with 20+ whitebass with a stray crappie here and there. They were snapp’n every cast for a good hour and half, the fall bite is definately ON!!!!!!!!! Good Luck!

Awesome! I think I’ll get out trolling around Hudson or Bayport saturday. Any idea how the lead trolling bite is going? I haven’t been out in a few weeks.

What’s the closest public launch around 94 area, beanies is getting spendy.

Not much close to Beanies that is public that I know – Afton and Hudson are both about the same cost.

Tipdown, how was the flow? I was thinking about fishing P2 this weekend but I don’t think I want to fight the current since I’ll be on my own. Were you live bait or trolling? I would assume the live bait bite will be kicking in soon again.

Seen a boat pick up a few lastnight. I don’t troll so I can’t speak on that Sir.

I’m not sure, I think Hudson launch is closed due to high water.

I’m not sure about the flow, I’d say p2/3 is going to be rough. I haven’t ventured down that far as of late. The bite on the Croix is good enough for me. I’ve been throwing swimbaits and crankbaits at them, but I wouldn’t doubt the livebait bite. I haven’t used livebait on the river in a few years, especially during this time of year its all artificial for me. Watch your electronics and you will have a ball.

    Good Luck gentlemen!

Lead was hot yesterday….nothing big, but 14 in 2 1/2 hours…Ripshad 200s in 15- 20 FOW (some nice silvers to fill in the gaps). I didn’t realize that the no-wake had been lifted so I just started trolling from the dock and never looked back. All south of 94 bridge WI side of river.

The ones I cleaned were stuffed with 2 1/2 inch shad. No heavy concentrations of fish but my graph was rarely ever clear.

Now to hunt for bigger fish…….

I was able to get a nicer one (24.5”) Saturday trolling along with smaller fish. (same spot, WI shoreline below 94) This came off a board on a magnum walleye diver. I think this time of year (until things freeze) it’s always good to run at least one line with a crank that’s on the big side.

Nice….I am assuming it was suspended? All the eaters I caught were right on the bottom.

Probably close to the bottom. I was fishing about 20 fow and had the crank on 8 lb braid quite a ways out. I think magnum walleye divers go almost to 20 feet in that situation.

I took your advice…caught some eaters and one 25 incher on a Reef Runner.

Obviously my talent isn’t in photography…so the pic is a bit distorted. Sent back to fight another day!

Nice fish! Heading out there tomorrow for the afternoon, hopefully can add to the report.

They still hanging out in that 16-20′? Last couple times out found em in that range.

Nice! Reef runners are another river favorite of mine! Usually I try to run a little ripper on one of my boards, and will go bigger in the fall.

Couple nice saugs, couple crappies. Got em rigging and jigging(fatheads), then lead. Pretty slow and no set pattern but it’s gorgeous out there. Wind died down for us close to sunset.

I like it. I don’t mind slow fishing as long as it’s nice, and this fall has been wonderful so far. Took the kiddo out bluegill and crappie fishing on a few lakes near Woodbury this week. I’ve seen decent size fish starting to move shallower there.

Still hoping to get back out on the Croix one more time before I head out for hunting.

Yesterday was good for me on the Croix. Trolling cranks for 3-4 hours ended up with 13 total (sauger and walleye). 10 keepers, but the largest was only 18”.

Just a heads up on the Hudson Launch as I drove by while picking up some bait.

The blockade is down, but neither dock is in the water for those who want to launch there. Still looking high, but not as bad as last week.

Bite was tough for me sunday morning trolling and jigging. Only a few sauger and crappies. About a half hour after the clouds cleared out just past noon the walleyes started snapping. Same trolling run that was slow produced 3 eyes in short order. Couple more passes and my limit was filled. Jigged for some crappies after that which were hungry too. Turned out to be a nice afternoon after a dreary morning.

Anybody notice some crappies have eggs already? Seems a bit early?

Found a few sauger for dinner yesterday. Jig minnow.

Anybody know if they found a body in Prescott. Talked to a sheriff 11am when they were looking.

Had a fun day trolling from 94 south to Afton on the wisco side today. Nothing fast and furious but managed a nice 19″ walleye, two smallies including 1 chubby gal about 16″, and a couple of white bass. The eye and the whities are headed for my frying pan. The smallies got to swim again.

I pulled reef runners, thundersticks, and flicker shads — all fish came on #7 flicker shads, and all hit on the deep side rod immediately after surging forward. They needed a little extra enticement today.

Surface water still 54. When I launched at lakefront the docks were still pulled, when I loaded up they had been put back in.

You guys are killing me. Definitely keeping my boat out longer next year. I alternate over the years and this was an early one. Keep up the good work and mark some ice fishing spots…….
