I will ask for reccomandations for Ice Augers.
I am looking for motorized, not hand any longer
    What size motor is good
Also brand names that seem to be quality.
If you have had bad experiences I would be interested in that as well, (what to stay away from)
I am a sometimes, (1-2 times weekly) icefisher not an everyday so I don’t need top of the line.
Thanks for the help and input

Lots of good, lightly used gas augers out there. Any 8 inch model should work well for most days.

I love my 40 volt Strikemaster. The 24 like werm said will work good too. Jon is correct lots of used gas because of the electric’s now. I have one sitting in the garage taking up space as the spare as we speak.

    the 24v Strikemaster

I would go with the strikemaster 24v just because its got a traditional handle vs using a drill type. Of course you could get the clam plate or some other thing, but to me just get something already built the way it should be. If you dont already have a drill capable of handling the work of the auger, its actually cheaper to just get the strikemaster.

Where are you located. I really like electric but I live in Alberta and fish Sask and Manitoba. Late season with an electric can suck.

If you cutting through 2ft or less electric is the way to go or if your only drilling a handful of holes in a trip.

I Swiss cheese the hell out of a lake when I fish. Late season I bring a gas.

Fishing in southern and central WI, electric all the way. I have both the Lite FLight 8″ and the 6in K-Drill. No complaints with either. Sold my IonX 8in as the drill with the Lite FLight or K-Drill is easier to use, haul and you get to use the drill all year.

That said, I can see where a gas auger is still the way to go farther north if you want to hole hop

I want a 10″ hole. Strikemaster 40V is perfect. And I’m hard to please. . . or so I’ve been told several time.

Ion or strikemaster, pick your poison. For the record I’ll be getting a Alpha Plus 10″

I live in Winnipeg. No issues late season on lake Winnipeg with an ion g2.

If you do not need a hammer drill or do not already have one your best option is the strike master 24v at about $420 for the 6-inch model. The only two hammer drill brands useable for augers are Dewalt and Milwaukee. So unless you can find a good deal on one the 24v will most likely be the best option.

If you go with a 24V or 40V Strikemaster Lite Flight it may be a good idea to consider getting a spare battery.
Late last season a buddy and I where out hole hopping and moving all over the lake. He had his ION and I had a 24V Lite Flight. His battery crapped out about 2 hours before dark and mine when for about another hour. Then we were stuck since neither one of us had an extra battery.

Maybe its just my age but I prefer the dedicated electrics rather than using a drill. I still have my original Ion. I bought a new upgraded battery two years ago so I expect to get more years out of it?
I still have two gas that have not been used in a few years but I wouldnt hesitate to bring one late winter perch fishing on Winni.
