Experiment and see what feels right. I’d say 20-40lbs would be a good start.
Just make sure not to run them flat. Should always have 5lbs or so in them.

What is the reason behind not running them flat?

Always get a ride height reading before hooking the trailer up. Obviously there are some instances where you wont get all the ride height back due to weight, but try to get as close as possible to the before ride height of the pickup. I found I almost never need more than about 30lbs in my Firestones, but your results may vary. Also, like Grubson said, keep 5lbs in them at all times. I also periodically check the PSI to ensure I still have the required minimum in them between uses.

    Mine are on a 5.0 F-150 Crew 6.5′

They can loose there shape while deflated and start rubbing on stuff or possibly get torn.

    Nobody’s touching that with a ten-foot pole.

Anyone have issues with raising the truck on a body/frame lift hoist? if the rear differential is unsupported can the bags tear?

I have put several on the hoist without an issue. All have been firestone airbags, can’t speak for any others. I plan to install the self leveling bags on my truck when I get some time. I towed about 11,000 lbs. The other day and it was a bit sketchy going up a hill once I got to the property, going up the hill unloaded the rear and it was getting loose.

    I’m on a Busch light budget…

Busch light is the gate way to my heart toast

Fun fact I pump my air bags up with a bike pump. 7 pumps each hauls the ice castle. When ever your not around a air compressor
