RED WING, Minn. (WXOW) — After an emergency shut down late last month, Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant returned to full power.
Xcel Energy powered down the Unit 1 reactor after the outage that started January 26 to replace a seal in one of the reactor cooling pumps. As part of the cooling down process, the plant did release a cloud of steam that built up in the pressurized cooling system.
Xcel said the situation posed no danger to the public or plant workers, and Unit 2 continued to operate at full power.
Unit 1 returned to full power Friday afternoon.
