Re-cableing a rigger?

Is there any trick to this? I bought 2 very slightly used Cannon Mac 10 downriggers for dirt cheap and now have the Trax mounted on the Skeeter with all the risers/swivel bases, etc. The guy I bought them from got hung up on Superior with one and snapped the cable, so I need to re-spool one rigger. I have a 300 foot spool of new 150# cable ready to go. Just looking to see if there are any tricks or issues I should be aware of when doing so. ??

Keep tension on the wire as your putting it on. I’ve done my Big Jon riggers a few times over the years. Just make sure no kinks

What model Skeeter do you have? I am trying to figure out where to mount my riggers on my 2100. Any other pics. Thanks Paul.

Mine is a ’06 WX1880. I mounted a 12″ Trax on one side and a modified 12″ Trax on the other because the boats fuel fill caps were in the way. I had to cut off/modify the Trax to about 10.5″ on that fuel fill side. I made my own 3-1/4″ wide by 12″ long (or modified shorter) x 3/16″ stainless steel backer plates to bolt through to the underside of the glass cap. I removed the cleats on both sides and put the Trax over the old cleat openings. I covered the openings and the complete underside of the Trax plate with a bitchuthane mastic window wrap/tape to give it a barrier over the glass and cover the cleat hole to make it watertight. I also used nylon/plastic washers under the Trax at each bolt as a small/short riser so the Trax would not sit/rest tight to the glass cap. I wanted to keep my original rails, but have Trax just for the riggers. I actually think I can get a rod holder in the Tax as well, but we’ll see once I’m rigged up. They seems to work great and the kicker handle will not interfere with the riser-pedestal so I can turn just fine with the riggers all on the boat.
Now I just have to rig up a wire harness to plug them in – and go fishing.
