I have been using just regular black braided think line for then like you would use on a tip up. I’m trying to find something different that doesn’t tangle up as much. What are you guys using.

Sinking fly line works awesome. Never tangles and doesn’t cut or burn you when the fish takes a big run. Got 50ft chunks for under $5 I believe. Been awhile since I’ve bought mine. Never goes bad. High viz so you can see the minnow kicking from across the Ice house.

I also like hi vis flyline with a flourocarbon leader. Many bait stores carry mill end fly line for this purpose. 30 yards for $4 or $5.

I’ve been using the Suffix coated tip-up line for both my tip-ups and rattle reels and it works great.

Another vote for the flyline here. When my little guy was 3, he would handline up saugers and eyes on LOTW and have line every which way, and we never once had a tangle. It is truly amazing stuff for rattle wheel lines.

Unless I am missing something I wonder why no one has manufactured/marketed rattle reel line in Bright colors? It is great for noticing fish and bait movements, fixing fisherperson tangles and dealing with 3:00 AM eel pout messes. With all the wheelhouses in use now you would think the market is large enough.

I use neon color fly line, different colors helps with tangles.

Yep another on the fly line bandwagon. I use with Cortland 333 or 444 running line in yellow.
