I was in northern Wisconsin this week fishing walleyes and I did good but only on jigs. I couldn’t get any to go on cranks. Specifically rapalas scatter rap. I may have been using the wrong outfit but I didn’t have a lot of confidence in the way I could work the bait. It seemed the scatter rap doesn’t give as much of a consistent, diving, vibration on the tip of your rod. Instead it more like glides and scatters? Anybody any have successful retrives with this lure? Trolling, straight retrieve, twitch twitch?

I’ve caught a lot of fish on the Scatter Raps. Long casts and a straight, consistent retrieve allows that funny looking curved bill to add the erratic movements… no twitching or pausing of the bait works best for me.

They are very effective trolling shallow mornings/evenings and also on leadcore. The Gold Alburns colored minnow is one of my favorite open basin trolling lures on Mille lacs and is a must have if you ever head to LOTW.

Do a quick youtube search for “ScatterRap challenge” if you are looking for lots of great info on the ScatterRap. It was my first exposure to lure and I’ve been a fan ever since.

Like John, James and Will have said, awesome leadcore bait. I’ve done better casting the minnow style for walleyes as it runs a little deeper and suits my fishing style better. The Shad has been more productive trolling but I’m sure others might have the opposite opinion.
