Rapala Jigging Rap or Clam Tikka Minnow?

    Why one over the other?

I see that they are basically the same exact jig but some guys (not sponsored) really like one over the other.

I’ve always used Jigging Raps but just wondering if I’m missing something.

I ha e no luck with either, no faith in them so I don’t fish them often. But I have caught more fish on a slab rap over jigging rap, but a few nice walleye on a trip up north a couple years ago. My neighbor gave me a clam tikka minnow variety pack the other day I will give them a fair chance as well, they look nice. The neighbor guy works for clam so he has been trying to get me trying some of there products.

Not much of a difference in action. The Tika is a one piece mold and should hold up better.

After having the plastic fin break off many jigging raps sometimes after only a couple fish I gave up and went to the tikka which has a way more stout back fin on it.

I have also been very disappointed with the longevity of Jigging raps. The plastic fins break off way too easily. I’ll have to give the Tikka a try

I prefer Northland Puppet Minnow but had a hard time finding what i wanted this year so got some Tikkas. Have yet to try them cause I havent run out of puppets yet.

They both work for me. The benefit of the Tikka Minnow is it is a single mold so it has no plastic to break. They are really hard to break. I really like them. That being said, I like the Rapala paint jobs much better. The orange paint jobs on the Tikkas have been really good for me.

Are these 3 /16 a good size. Or what do you normally go with. And do you guys add meat or no meat

I like the northland puppet minnow size 4 in perch or white, my go to for walleye, but one day a couple of years ago I caught 4 musky, in 4 different parts of the lake, the largest was 41 1/2″

3/16 is my go to for walleye. Sometimes the next size up too. And just like the jiggin raps the smallest ones crush crappies. I put a minnow head on the belly hook but sometimes if they are aggressive enough you don’t need anything on it.

I have only used the tikas for walleye and have never had good luck with them but also have not spent a lot of time using them so I just do not have much confidence. I know some guys that have hammered slab crappies with the smaller sizes so I want to try some for panfish this year.

Have used this style of bait for crappies, they can be great at prime time & that might be only 20min. I would guess that might also be the case for Walters.

I use 3/16th and tip with a small minnowhead.

Moonshines work good too, similar lure and action

I was in the same boat as you Bearcat, I had some but fished them rarely and didn’t have much confidence in them. Last year I just got tired of watching all these other guys fish and swear by them and decided I was going to fish the heck out of them until I caught some fish on them. I won’t say I’ve gained enough confidence yet to make them my first choice, but they’re quickly becoming something I reach for quickly, especially if I know I’m over fish-and I’ve had some very good success with them over other baits. My satisfaction just keeps increasing.

and there’s a whole bunch of similar type from other makers too.

Some slight differences is that some are heavier and have a more nose dive like the Acme Hyper Rattle Jig. Some have a better tail fluke action like the Phantom Tully. Some have much better glide like the Northland Airplane. The Rapala Snap Rap has a better forward dart on the uplift vs original Jigging Rap. The Rapala Jigging Shad Rap has a slight less body weight and shad profile, so just slightly slower fall rate.

There are some newers ones of subtle varieties and sometimes it makes a difference from a full bite to just a looker.

All glide baits do the same thing. Cheap china ones catch fish too. I use mostly #7 jigging raps on P4 open water. I don’t think I have ever fished and not used one. Every manufacturer is trying to get in on the glide bait market.
By far my confidence lure and I never fish them tipped.

I have only caught 1 nice 24″ on a tiny Jigging Rap.

My friend uses huge Rapala Ripping Raps (I think) with a minnow head and he catches all size walleyes according to my brother.

My brother uses the Livetarget Baitball style Rippin Rap in large size and he catches all sorts of walleye too.

I’m surprised these huge baits catch walleyes of all size but they swear by them.
