Fried a trim gauge on a 1994 Ranger 392v. Bought a new gauge and put it in. Now gauge fluctuates wildly when raising or lowering motor, even does it if you push down trim sensor by hand. Any ideas?

I would check the trim sendor. If you move it slow by hand and it jumps around its probably failed internally. You can take a ohm meter and hook it to the wires coming out of the sensor and see if it moves slowly with no big jumps. If it works smooth check the wiring in the boat, if its jumpy replace it.

Yep, it was jumpy. A new sensor is $100 for this thing.
    Thanks.
