Hello everyone just a few questions about the ranger I just bought its an older 2007 621 vs but it only has 30 hrs on the 250 verado powering it but it has revolution 4 prop on it and I took it out the other day for my first ride in it and it only went 51 mph the fuel tank was full but no fishing gear in it yet…..I’ve been looking on forums for some info on what prop to put on it for speed but I thought I would post as well hoping for some advice from previous ranger owners I had a Lund 1900 prov prior to this so I don’t really know anything about this boat but I thought it would be mid 50s for sure any advice would be greatly appreciated also considering a jack plate as I had one on the Lund but to be honest I didn’t really see any real differences with it …..thanks in advance

Rangers are a slow boat to be honest… You should get a little more speed than that though. Jackplates do make a big difference though. That might be the fastest you get.

I had an 07 621 with an F250 Yamaha that went 52 with a full tournament load. How many rpm’s are you turning? That will be a key factor. The tempest series of props are very good performers on that hull.

While the Rangers aren’t the fastest, they are very solid and well built…

5850-5900 rpms was what I was getting I have a spare tempest prop from my last boat that had a 225 proxs I’ll throw it on and see what happens I was thinking about getting a bravo 1 lab tested prop but I have to talk to a few people first that are running one I am not really too terribly concerned about the speed but from what I read before I bought the boat I was thinking I’d be getting quite a bit better boat and around the same speed so I am a little bummed but it gives me a reason to buy some more stuff….I probably would have the dough on hooks anyhow haha

Check the motor height on the transom. Get the boat on plane and see if the anti-cavitation plate is barely skimming the water. If its buried in the water you are dragging resulting in lower speed and lower Max rpm. Those superchargerd verados do not do well with lugging. They will pass fuel into the oil. Of course don’t jack the motor up too much or you can loose cooling water supply. At full throttle that motor should “sing” at around 6200 rpm. Get your motor height right and then tune with the prop.
