36V on a 620T

I am putting a Terrova 101 on a new-to-me 620T. It looks like there shouldn’t be too much of an issue fitting three group 31 batteries up front, but my question is more along the lines of where to put the on board charger. I haven’t placed all the batteries yet, but it appears there is no way I can fit the charger in the same compartment. Anyone else care to share their rigging method or placement?

Not questioning your knwoledge of your new boat, but I’m finding it hard to beleive the 620T doesn’t already have a Ranger 3 or 4 bank charger in it. What year?

Correct, it does have a three bank charger, but the boat (2009) has one bank rigged for the Verado power steering. There is another starting battery completely separate. There will be 5 batteries in all, certainly not ideal, but I knew that getting into this.

The Ranger three bank charger was mounted in the center battery compartment with the two batteries used for trolling motor power. The compartment will fit three group 31s, but I’m curious if anyone else has a charger mounted elsewhere.

Ah, I now get your problem/question.
Having a 620, and not completely understanding the ‘T’ layout, one would have to guess that a storage compartment would have to be used, but not sure about routing wiring.
I realize I haven’t addressed your question, but it 1st really throw me. Verado power steering needs it’s own battery source? I need to ask my brother. He ran a 2025 Pro V nad had a Verado + 36 volt system and Dang sure thought he only ran 4 batteries total.
Best of luck and let us know how you achieved this task.

I have the prior version of the 620T and all my batteries and chargers are in the back rigging area. You can use the 3 bank charger for all 3 trolling motor batteries, leave it (charger) where its currently mounted and extend the leads up to the bow where you will have your trolling batteries. You can purchase a seperate one bank charger for your starting/electronics battery. That is how the chargers are configured in my boat…

My question to you is that do evaluate if you really need a 36V system – here are some potential impacts of the 36V system:
    – additional battery — $
    – need to purchase either a single bank charger or upgrade to a 4 bank charger — $ or $$
    – need to extend the charger leads of the 3rd bank to charge the additional battery in the bow
    – 36V Terrova is more $ than a 24V
    – 3rd battery in the bow is more weight to overcome for overall boat performance – your engine/prop combo has to provide additonal bow lift to overcome ~55# battery that’s almost on the nose of your boat so it’s like lifing more weight
    – I had a 36V Vantage on my transom so I put a 36V on the bow and feel that I could easially get by with a 24V system for both but am committed at this point but would love to lose and extra battery and the 1 bank charger…

Just wanted to offer a few thoughts for you to think about – good luck!

Thanks for the insight. I thought about going 80#, in fact the Vantage will stay that way, but with the bow mount motor on the previous 17′ tiller, I still wasn’t entirely satisfied with the longevity on that boat given my methods of use. Going to a bigger boat, I grew a little nervous and opted for a 101#. Going from a 80# and then to 101# (if unsatisfied) hits my wallet harder than if I play it safer going right to 101#.

Sorry this isn’t going to answer your question, but can’t you just run 4 batteries total in that boat? I know of 3 people with the same setup (36v trolling and Verado tillers) and they run 4 batteries total.
