Reata 2050?

For some reason I don’t see a lot of the 2050’s Reatas, nor do I see a lot of discussion about them. They seem similar to the Fisherman (hull wise) series, but they have the jumper seats. With a family of five the jumpers are important to us(well, my wife anyway).

I do see a lot of the Fisherman series of boats on the lakes around here. I would think there are at least a few families similar to mine that could really make use of the jumpers, but maybe not.

So, I guess what I am asking is this; what are the biggest differences between the Reata 2050 and the Fisherman 620VS? I think the Fisherman can handle a larger engine. Maybe that is why most opt for it?

A new Ranger is a big investment and I want to make sure I get the right thing. Our usage with be mostly fishing. Bass, Muskie, and Walleye. We fish on smaller, closer lakes during the week and like to fish larger Walleye water when time affords (Lake of the Woods, Leech, Mille Lacs).

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated. -)

For a family, I think it would be great. But the lack of rod storage, and storage in general is a deal breaker for me. Something else that is a personal decision, is the the kicker. I prefer to run a tiller for the amount of river fishing I do. To run a tiller kicker on the 2050 was very uncomfortable for me.

I see a lot of Reata 1850s but yeah the 2050 is a little more rare and who knows why.

Have you looked into adding a 5th swivel seat in a 620? I went with the 1850 because we like to go out with a 2nd family so wanted to be able to seat 8. But honestly we don’t use the bow seating very often, when we do it’s really nice.

IMO the only thing you really lose in the reata is the storage, namely rod storage.

A 620 with the jump seats would really be the ticket.

Maybe check out skeeter, I know they offer jump seats in their big glass boats.

Here’s your 21 footer with jump seats, more storage, more floor space and ALOT more affordable…

I looked at the Skeeter and while nice I like the Ranger better. The price is very close on the two I priced out. The Skeeter does come with the 300hp SHO versus a 225 (max) on the Reata. The Skeeter dealer told me I could expect 59-60 with the 300. The Ranger dealer told me I could expect 60 from the 225 on the 2050 Reata.

I also thought the usable space (width wise) in the Skeeter was less. It just seemed narrower in the cockpit area. I also thought the Ranger had a better layout, especially in the back. The splash well does not extend all the away across the back adding some extra space for people on the back. Also, the Ranger appeared like it would be a lot easier to get back into.

We have looked at the Ranger and the Skeeter a lot. We have went back and forth and I think we have decided on the Ranger. It is such a difficult decision…..

I have previously owned a Reata and currently own a 620VS. I too made the compromise to justify getting it but after two years of wishing I hadn’t, traded it in on a new 620 and wished I’d have done it sooner. Bottom line- the Reata is a fish-n-ski. If you are a hard core fisherman the 620 is the obvious choice. That jump seat in the Reata takes up a lot of room.

Isn’t a fully loaded WX2100 $70k+? (I’m basing that off of an ad I saw for a used one that claimed he spent $75k so I could be wrong) My dad paid $55k out the door for a Reata with kicker in 2008.

I think that’s being really optimistic, I don’t think my dad’s 2050 with a 225 Etec will do much over 50. Maybe somebody else that owns one can verify that for me. I’ve actually thought the 225 on his was a little under powered at times.

I had a 19′ Reata with a 200HP Mercury Optimax and it would do 65mph.

I think the reason you don’t see too many 2050’s is that they’re so close in price to a 620.

i will add my $.02.. i have a 1850 Reata and its truly a fish and ski. I do about 80% fishing now, but have kids that are young so that will turn around. Its a great boat to fish from but not what i call perfect. It works well, but a 620 is more of a fishing boat. If you need both, the 2050 is an awesome choice. Plenty of room to have fun on the water plus you can fish. REally depends on what the ultimate goal is for the boat. Either way, the ranger is a great boat that will last a long time and get good resale.
