Ranger Reata Hulls

I am going to be selling my tiller glass boat next year and buy a used 1850 Reata for more of a family freindly fishing boat. 30k or less is the budget. I want a 4 stroke also.

Digging through the net there seems to be some changes to the inside layout over the years.

Is there a model year or newer I should be looking to get and what were the improvements?

If this info is already in another thread a link would be great.

    Thx in advance!

The hulls haven’t changed I don’t think. Just the top cap and console layout. Around ’09-’14 or so (don’t quote the years) they had consoles that weren’t very conducive to mounting graphs. Could get a smaller one flush mounted but not much room for a second or a single large one. If you have a $30k budget, you’ll likely end up in this vintage or older. Could probably find an ’06-’08 for under $30k but that’s about it.

As far as buying one of those, when you find one for less than 30k with a 4 stroke that you like, you’d better buy it right away. If you don’t someone else will. They don’t last very long.

I owned one (’11) for 5 years so feel free to ask any questions.

    Thanks for the reply.

If I read ur post correctly the year classes prior to 2009 had a more usable dash area?

I have read posts that certain year classes had issues with wAter getting into the center rod/ski locker?

I troll a lot, cast some for Muskies, and typically fish big water (pepin or mille lacs). I am hoping with the jump seats and cockpit area it will make for a nice fishing boat that can convert to tubing when needed.

As for the dash, I don’t know the specific year, but seems about right.

Mine would get wet in the rod locker. Just make sure it has a couple holes in the rear of the locker to drain water. This is one of the reasons I switched. It’s an awesome boat for trolling. The cockpit is huge, noticeably bigger than my 1910.

The bow is fine for one person casting. I primarily musky fish myself so Muskie fished a lot out of the Reata. It’s a 2 person casting rig. The rear deck has plenty of space for a second. Just not really anywhere for a third is all.

You should also take a look at the 1860 and 1880 angler. The layout for fishing is much better on the angler. The front of the boat is more like the 620/619 with the rod locker in between the consoles and not in the floor. Also the front casting deck is 6″ longer than the reatta. The 1880 is the newer wider model which was introduced in 2014. Also look for deals on non current new models as they can be a great buy. I bought a new one this year with a 4 stroke with 8 year motor warranty, tow bar, bimini, and trolling motor for under 35000 plus tax. I was looking at used boats also but for a little more money it was a no brainer to buy new. Good luck in your search.
