ranger graph fuse issue

I have a 2014 ranger angler. Stock it has a 3amp fuse for electronics. I have an older lowrance hds 8, and a helix 10g4n at the dash. I have blown the 3amp fuse twice this year, and finally realized that the helix 10 calls for a 5amp fuse.

How dangerous is it to install the 5amp fuse that the helix calls for vs the 3amp that ranger had for the electronics?

I don’t know what the Ranger specs are but I’d guess that a 5 amp fuse should be within specs since a 3 amp fuse is quite small for the main electronics fuse.
Do you have a Ranger dealer you can ask?

The answer depends on the wire size going to/from the fuse panel. Likely it is large enough to handle the load but you should confirm. On my boats, I typically bypass the factory fuse panel for the electronics and run dedicated 10 awg (or larger) wire from the main breaker to a seperate fuse panel.

Thalweg87 has been a great resource for me on wiring and electronics with my Ranger.

Whatever he recommends, I would go with.
