Ram Mount for 958C Humminbird

No experience with Ram Mounts so looking for some suggestions:

Looking for a mount for the 958C I just ordered. Ram Mounts website suggests I need a mount with 2.25″ ball, which all are $100+

Can I run a smaller one (1.5″) to save some money, or will it not hold it well enough?

I just had a Garmin 93sv installed and the rigger strongly suggested 2″ or bigger. had to run to FF to get one but it wasn’t a hundred bucks

Kinda depends on how you setup the mounts. If you can fix the ram so it is in a Z configuration and use the shorter arm, the 1.5″ ram mounts can be tightened to stay fixed in pretty rough conditions with the 900 series. If you want the arm extended, for sure get the 2.25″ ball.

Biggest RAM.

Swing arms are stronger and less expensive FYI.

Your 900 will move and you’ll need to crank down on that RAM as much as possible with the 1.5. But that is an option.

You’ll spend less on the swing arm than the 1.5

So obviously that’s the direction I’m suggesting

I had a 999 installed on a 2.25 ram mount, never moved an inch….I now have a larger Helix 10, again doesn’t move at all… go big or go home… why risk it falling for a little $$ savings… I preferred the ball mount to the swing arm, I like to be able to fine tune how my screen sits, the Swing arm is limited…

I have the 958 c with the 1.5. It works but not the best. I would go with the swing arm.

The sonar was $500, so I really didn’t want to spend $100+ to mount it.

Honestly I have no experience with them so for all I know the 1.5″ may have been overkill.

Just ordered the 2.25 Ram (D-111U-C) on ebay for $72.

I just picked up a helix 9″ which I believe is the same form factor as the 10″ and maybe the 12″. I picked up a kit with the correct mounting plate and shorter rod ( about 3″ ) and then used my existing 1.5 Ram ball. Seemed plenty strong to me. I had other issue with the H Bird but the mount worked great $31 west marine in stock
