I hate mayo and ketchup, that’s all that sauce is with a little salt, vinegar and worschitshire. Yuck

Never had CFA, canes was nothing special one time and oil was burnt so bad you couldn’t eat them the second time I tried them. I can make toast and yard bird strips as easy as I can fry fish at home and I don’t pay anyone to fry my fish either. Anyway after all the yard bird talk I guess I was craving- I forgot my lunch this morning and ran to the kwik trip by work and grabbed a 5.49 two tenders and fries (fresh from the back row). I really should have weighed the one strip. I bet it was heavier than 5 canes. I ate the second strip 2 hours later..

Popeyes is the best but not any of the Popeyes in MN. They are garbage compared to the Popeyes in the south or east coast.

I wondered about that. Was told by others it was awesome and then one opened by my house in Blaine and I tried them 3 times and was kinda meh.

One meal at Canes was enough for a lifetime for me and my wife. CFA, Popeyes or KFC very, very occasionally…only so much grease and fat we can stomach in a meal, but it does taste good.

popeyes chicken sandwich > CFA chicken sandwich

haven’t tried Canes yet but would like to but you won’t find me waiting in line for a half hour for fast food

KFC is solid but I’m rarely in that part of town so I never get it.

I have tried Canes, CFA, Popeyes— and many others. All I can say is Slim Chicken beats them all hands down. The only problem is the only location I know of is Sioux Falls. That being said if you are in Sioux Falls give Slim Chicken a try and thank me later.

There is one in St Cloud now.

I find Canes chicken pretty bland and the sauce even blander. I like the DQ Chicken with Sweet Baby Ray’s buffalo sauce.
My 96 year old father-in-law would eat all his meals at Canes if he could.

I had seen the one in Souix Falls about a year ago and made note of it, then I knew I saw one in passing somewhere in MN, just couldn’t remember where… I will have to check it out on the way up north one of these times.

Apparently a Slim Chicken’s in Mankato as well. Menu looks solid!

I do find it interesting that they are expanding in smaller markets like Mankato and St Cloud before the Twin Cities. We are always the last place to get trendy restaurants. I mean we just got a Canes and Popeyes in the last year or so.

You just answered your own question :). Trying to get a buzz going where the other brands haven’t taken a foothold yet. Makes it easier to expand into other markets once you have a beachhead in the area.

We cant keep a BBQ joint either which is disappointing. That Smokin D’s in Sauk Rapids was fantastic.

No Shite…Geez…how many chicken joints can St Cloud support let alone total number of restaurants.

Not complaining, plenty of choices every few weeks when we go into town..

There’s a new BBQ restaurant opening up in St Cloud here in the next few weeks called Up in Smoke.

Is it a Cheech and Chong themed restaurant? I’ll take the chicken with a side of CBD…

Up in smoke is bomb. And Cheech and Chong like real weed, not crappy cbd

If you like canes(meh) try the Nashville Coop off Snelling south of st. Clair. Smaller and more “authentic”, but if you don’t like a lot of heat DO NOT go over medium spiciness. I went one notch above and smoke was coming out of my ears for half an hour, and I like hot…

I’m taking the kid to the river tomorrow. Maybe I’ll give it a try. I love a good hot sauce, especially pushing the heat.

St Cloud is a haven for Mexican joints too.

    My top 3

Bravo Burritos – can’t beat the smothered chix verde burrito
Gilbertos – Carnitas burrito is the bomb with their hot salsa
Taco Chons – a bit spendy but probably most authentic

Chik Fil A’s best attribute is service and speed that is unparalleled, their food is just ok. Cane’s I’ve tried to go a few times, but there is not a chicken strip in the world I’d wait around the block for. Popeye’s is legit if it’s fresh, but quickly turns into a greasy mess. KFC’s got the best fast food chicken sammich imo.

The best Fried Chicken overall around the cities is at Revival, which is a chefy restaurant with a couple cities locations. A close second, at a fraction of the cost, is North Coop in Minnetonka. Thank me later.

Bravo Burrito’s is a classic, always solid OG. St. Cloud is a great *fast and chain* food town, if that’s a thing. Lots of awesome small locally owned places have come and gone sadly. Bravo’s, Val’s and Anton’s are about the only ones that have stood the test of time.

Did you ever try “Best Burger Ever”? It was in the old taco johns in waite park. It was fantastic! They closed a couple years ago and now its a Gyro place.
