    Anyone?
We did OK, caught a lot of fish in the 20″- 24″ range. Two 27″ were our biggest, saw a 31.5″ come over the gunwale on the boat next door. No bonus sturgeon. Low water, low current, good weather. We did best pulling downstream.
    Let’s hear your story.

We did OK except Friday. One of the guys in my boat caught a 32″ walleye and a 54″ sturgeon in the same day! The walleye was huge to say the least. Pulling downstream was also best for us.

I will be posting a report soon. When you guys are pulling downstream what weights are you pulling? Speed? Etc?

I was wondering when we’d see a report from the IDO guys, pretty sure we saw you running around by 4 mile on Friday.

We had a great weekend! Fished Friday just up river from 4 mile, and caught around 40 w/ a 27 the biggest. Saturday and SUnday were spent up river. Saturday was amazing #’s with the double 27″ attached being the highlight. Sunday was a little slower, but better quality w/ 4 fish over 28″ but none over 30. We worked about .5 with the current (which was a little difficult with the wind), 3/8 oz to 1/2 oz jigs (gold, white and gold peace tops colors). The bigger the minnow, the better. It didn’t seem to matter much between Fatheads, Shiners, or Rainbows.

Fished between Vidas and Frontier Sat-Tues. We covered a lot of water. The faster we dragged down stream, the more fish we triggered. Upstream worked too, but it generally was a little less productive. 1.0-1.4 mph most often. We went heavier, 3/8 oz or 1/2 oz, because of our speed. I did get curious to see how fast we could still get bites, stopping after catching fish at 1.8 mph. Most were 20″-24″ too. 29″ was the largest for our group, several 27″ and 28″ fish were boated. We also witnessed a 31.5″ hauled in on Tuesday.

We really tried to make pitching work, and that did get a 28″ on a blade, but mostly gave up small eyes and little pike.

That was James and Andy. They were filming sturgeon for this weeks show. We primarily fished near Frontier, had a stretch of the river all to ourselves on the Canadian side from Saturday until Tuesday.

Cal, I was using a quarter ounce jig with more line out than I was used to doing; maybe 75′ at times. I caught more fish (ahem) than my buddies who were married to 3/8ths and halfs. We pulled around 1 – 1.5 mph, although I mostly was paying attention to my jig as I didn’t have to run the boat. Just a little faster than the current. I even caught fish on a split shot rig with about a quarter ounce of random sinkers from the corners of my jig box and a stray red hook. The fish seemed downright boat-shy to me, especially midday.
    Can’t wait to get back.

I wasn’t able to make it up there this year. Without a doubt the river is my favorite fishing of the year. How were the lines/crowds at the boat ramps this year? Thx

Was up at RR on the 10th to the 12th. Fishing in Birchdale area. Was 1st time fishing the river. The bite was fair. Mostly pitching and dragging because water level was waaay low.
On another note I would like to thank they a$$*&^% who stole my clearance light and housing grommet from my boat trailer. I guess he couldn’t afford a new one. $9.84 total shipped to my door from SBC. Great service SBC.

Our crew was up all last week. Couple days of walleye fishing then hit the sturg hard.

Look over and my partner is hooked into a good pole bender. About half way up he comments “this thing aint fighting, think its a snag”. Well I have heard that before. So I’m standing behind him with the net ready. I’m looking at the water and see the common bubble burp that typically happens as a big fish comes up. I’m thinking this is a nice fish! Shorty after that, big fish just under the water surface, scoop er’ up. As I pull the fish into the boat, partner is still hooked into a pole bender. Yep, hooked into a decent sized log. That fish followed that log all the way to the surface. Craziest thing I have ever seen. Would not believe it I didn’t see it my self. Now there is your Rainy River Story to chew on!
