Anyone around vidas late in the day? Just wondering if you still had to push big chunks of ice out to use the ramp

Not sure if anyone can help me out, but I’m wondering how the Canadian side launches are? (Barwick and Pinewood) I can’t find any information and need to know if boats can be launched there? Any help for a Canadian Vikings fan would be appreciated. Thanks all and good luck!

We did well today. Buddies first fish was 28.5 and we got plenty more nice fish. Jigs only produced small fish

What were the big ones eating?
fishingadam54Posts: 56April 8, 2022 at 10:29 am #2114839How’s the water clarity holding up? Hope all this rain and snow didn’t muck it up
walleyevisionPosts: 415April 8, 2022 at 11:07 am #2114850Hearing the river is opened up in Baudette. Any reports on the ramps there?
April 8, 2022 at 11:20 am #2114857Crankbaits and plastic
I’ve fished this bite once with a buddy originally from the Rainy River area a few years back and am not an expert. I’d agree with this on my limited experience though^.
I cannot recall even attempting to fish jigs. It was all paddle tail plastics barely pulled upstream on seams, the occasional casted and slow rolled crank in shallow areas, and some 3-way’d stick baits pulled slowly as possible upstream held steady 6″ off bottom.
Michael BestPosts: 1235April 8, 2022 at 11:59 am #2114874Talked with the Dutchman a half hour ago.
River is open past timber mill but he didn’t think the access would be usable this weekend with all the shore ice in the area.
Clarity is decent. He didn’t think the forks would do much till next week with the rain forecasted.
Water flow has increased a little and he upped the size of his jig being used to 1/2 oz.April 8, 2022 at 12:01 pm #2114875Lipless clacking raps.( my favorite discontinued bait) has been our number 1 producer. Very slowly worked. 2 over 28 now and a ton over 25. Plastics produced 50 under 20
April 8, 2022 at 12:05 pm #2114877We are in a older beat up alumacraft with merc on back. Brown striker suit. Buddies in Grey striker suit. Feel free to say hi
Michael BestPosts: 1235April 9, 2022 at 7:35 pm #2115169Lots of boats on the water today.
We could only come up with 1 fish on plastic today.
The rest all came on jigs and shiners. Biggest we got was a 22”.Water has 2 to 3’ of clarity. Some debris floating down river but nothing to get excited about. Water temp hit 36.3 on boat today.

Forks are still holding strong when I drove to get fuel. Our biggest of the day was 27. Off plastics. Went to jig and frozen shiners and caught tons of males. Overall it was a slower day. Started off great and ended on the slower side. We had a spot with 6 fish in a row, by the time we had the 6th in the net we had 12 boats around us and we were smack dab in the middle.
What I don’t get it the guys who quick scan through what we are fishing right next to us or 5 ft in front of us and then hammer it down, washing out what we are fishing. Just a d bag move in my mind. But it must be normal, happened every time we caught fish.

Some people lead, some people follow. And, some times it sucks to be a leader…
April 10, 2022 at 8:57 am #2115200It is pretty funny watching 100k boats swarming in on our little dingy. We had a Vexas ranger and 3 skeeters do that to us. You think they’d be fine on there own, 93 alumacraft with a elite 5 from 2007 the leader
gonefishinPosts: 346April 10, 2022 at 10:44 am #2115208Who all is staying home with next weeks forecast? I called up and was told the forecast is for 15 – 20″ of snow Wed – Friday and blizzard warnings. It is not just the rain and snow, the wind forecasts will make it almost impossible to fish. Is the slight tip tip from a sturgeon or is that the wind? I can handle the cold/snow for a day or two but not 5 days straight.
April 10, 2022 at 3:12 pm #2115264I made two day trips this weekend. Considerably murkier today than Friday. I think the forks are going to bust before the snow hits later in the week as it’s mostly rain until then. The edges looked pretty soft when I drove over this morning.

All hat and no cattle.
Michael BestPosts: 1235April 10, 2022 at 4:33 pm #2115298I had a Vexus come by 20’ away running wide open.
I guessed him at 3 rod lengths away. LolEnded up with a dozen fish today. Fished until 11 am. All caught on jigs and shiners. Caught one that was 27”.
fishingadam54Posts: 56April 10, 2022 at 8:47 pm #2115340Fished the last 2 days. Boated 30 fish for 2 guys but couldn’t connect on anything big. Saw a few hogs caught but fishing seemed slow for most boats. Water temp was 37 and visibility is around 2′ give or take
April 10, 2022 at 8:58 pm #2115343I think that Vexus guy was breaking in his engine or something, because he was running around all weekend. At least twice Saturday he came by flying one direction then 15 minutes later he’d be headed the other way.
Friday was tough, yesterday was fun and today was meh. I’ll post a bigger report later, but caught most our fish yesterday jig and a minnow and our biggest on a shad rap.
walleyevisionPosts: 415April 10, 2022 at 9:03 pm #2115344Got up tonight, didn’t fish but swung by the landings to check them out. Saw one of those 100k boats with a 2 inch gash in the skeg of his 300hp outboard…OUCH!

hell of a place to break in your new boat. “let’s go to a river in April to show off how dumb you are!”
April 11, 2022 at 6:17 am #2115368Been getting a few nice ones over the weekend. Mostly fishing plastics.

Werm, we’ve found that spending our time watching other fishermen and trying to figure out what the *$#@ is going through their heads is a tried and true method of killing time up on the Rainy! Does anyone know how far the open water’s made it downriver so far? We’re heading up next week, and I’m hoping we’ll be able to launch at Wheeler’s and slip up the boat at the resort overnight. Thanks guys!
