Thank you for the report Mike.
Sounds like the county opened up Frontier this morning.
A co worker and I will be heading up a week from Thursday for 4 days. Trying to time the last push before it closes.
Hopefully things don’t get dirty.

You only live once and life’s short. Take off next week and go……..
Man one of these years I have to get up there for this.
Just wondering if anyone tried the ramp at frontier and how it is this year? bringing a 16.5 ft alumicraft up and wondering if enough water to load and unload
You should be alright but do not back in to far. From what I hear that ramp is a no go for many bigger boats. Good chance I’ll be using it tomorrow.
Bite was pretty much the same today. We spent more time working over fish we had found the last few days managed to hit 70 fish. Still mostly river fish. Water temps at the end of the day just below 37. Ice pack is down near Pinewood.
Next weeks weather looks fantastic. We are headed up Monday, we were going to go up this week to but the kid has trap league stuff he can’t miss and I have a coaches meeting for baseball I have to be at.
See you guys soon.
Coming up on thursday. Looks like the area is set to get 6-10” of snow. Do you guys think the ramps will be cleared off by Thursday morning?

The county works hard to keep the ramps clear. If not, the people fishing work together as well. We’ve done a chain of trucks more then once to get boats in and trucks out. Bring a tow strap. Bring a shovel and start clearing if your the first.
Calling for 1″ snow in baudette and 4″ at Birchdsle. Hope they are right. Ice pack is about a mile down river of Pinewood. The bite was still pretty decent today.
Mike have you used Frontier landing or have you heard how it is? Thanks
I seen a video from Vidas taken this morning.
There is open water now.
It won’t be long and that ramp should be open.
Next week’s forecast looks pretty good so far. Wednesday through Friday are in the 50’s.
A week from tomorrow we will be heading that way. Hope to be on the water by noon on Thursday.
I tried to get my coworker to take Wednesday off but no dice.

I’m thinking next week is going to be a great week. Great timing on the trip.
Mike have you used Frontier landing or have you heard how it is? Thanks
I used Frontier landing the last two day. Good to go but heard just don’t back a big boat in to far.
Snowed all day up here but it didn’t amount to much. Wet and melting.
Nice fish Mike.
Are any of the fish sliding up on the flats or are they all sticking to the channel depressions?
I am hearing the county opened up Vidas this morning.
I seen a video from the Dutchman saying there are open holes in front of his place.
With next weeks forecast there should be a lot of open water by the weekend.

Would imagine it’ll be a madhouse for the last week or so of the season. Just remember, don’t call anyone bro!
I used Vidas this morning. Think the Dutchman has a channel of open water out front. Bigger fish showing up today. Pair of 29s for my big fish of the day. The bigger one hit 11 pounds. Good number of other nice fish to go with them. Pitching bite is going good.
Hi everyone,
Have a tripped planned the weekend of the 18th, staying at Wheelers. Any educated guesses how far the river will be clear by then? The group is a worried it won’t be ice free to there by then.
Thank you.
The Rainy should be well clear by the 18th especially with some warm weather next week BUT the spring walleye season on the Rainy does close on April 14th if that’s the species you’re after but there are opportunities for pike and sturgeon.

That’s promising. We’re going for sturgeon and fish by wheelers/four mile bay. Some in the group were worried wheelers access wouldn’t be open by then and we would have to drive up river to a different access.
Appreciate the response.
Nice to see some bigger fish!
How is the flow and water clarity?
Hoping to make a run up next weekend with my 10 year old son, it would be his first time.
Hopefully things don’t blow open before.
Thanks for the reports!
Water is a littler dirtier than last weekend but still clear. 35-36 degrees. I drove over the forks in a few different places and the edges are getting pretty loose. With the warmer weather coming this week, I wouldn’t doubt if they bust loose late in the week or weekend. It will be close imo but I think you’ll be alright.
Fishing this weekend was comparable to last numbers wise for our group but more big fish like others have said. 29.25 and 28.5 were the big fish. A handful of 27s as well. Wind was brutal
Edit – the rivers in NW MN similar in size to the forks opened up since Friday if it means anything.
Snowed all day up here but it didn’t amount to much. Wet and melting.
Mike looks like you need to get that heated floor installed, like the tiled bathroom floors! Really cuts down on the snow build up!

The Dutchman did a video this morning from Timbermill. The only ice left is on the shoreline and he is guessing it will a couple days till the access is opened up for boats.
Still up here fishing. The bite has been a bit of a grind for us the last few days. Not seeing a lot of new fish in the system. More people showing up everyday and the fish are getting to see a lot of lures. Clarity is still good. The forks still look very solid. 35 to 36 for water temps.
It has definitely been a grind this week, decent fishing but not near as good as other years at least for us anyway. I think water just needs to warm up and like Mike said there are a lot of boats so they have seen everything thrown at them.
Two of us fished Sunday Monday Tuesday. Sunday we stuck to Canadian side with all plastics out of vidas. Caught 21 biggest was 24”. First time committing to plastic for both of us so learning experience. Monday slept in cause of the cold. Got going about 10:30 out of birchdale. Fished minnows till dark. Caught 18 biggest was 24.5”. Fished sunup till 12:30 Tuesday with minnows out of vidas. Caught 19 biggest was 26.5. Water temp ranged from 35 up to 37. Of course the nicest day was when we had to head home. Maybe head back up Friday or Saturday.
Cold and rainy so headed home. Maybe hit it next year. Wish it would open all the way to lake again. Gotta get stuff cleaned up and get rested up for 3 weeks at Lake Erie
