We fished the s curves yesterday with plenty of ice flowing by. Could see down river fishing in front of pinewood. Guessing today it’s opening towards Vidas now. Frontier landing was not open yesterday unless you wanted to push a boat across the ice.

They’re predicting 12”+ Tuesday though Wednesday night. Was planning on heading up Thursday..what are the changes birchdale will be plowed out by Thursday afternoon?
Michael BestPosts: 1235April 3, 2023 at 1:32 pm #2193014The Dutchman just posted that county is at Frontier busting out the ice on the landing.
April 3, 2023 at 4:16 pm #2193062Sounds like nasty weather. I see a winter advisory 9 to 20 inches of snow. What a nightmare. I guess I’m bringing the tire chains. And tow straps
April 3, 2023 at 11:12 pm #2193181The wind looks nasty too. Props to anyone fishing Tues – Thurs of this week. The weekend looks pretty nice however. Good luck.

We pushed our trip back a day and will be heading up tomorrow. Just to set up camp and launch the boat Thursday morning. Hopefully the forecast is on the lower side. 8 inches is better then 20

If your at birchdale. I have tire chains and tow straps.
April 5, 2023 at 3:28 pm #2193666Just saw a photo of Birchdale. Looks like lots of snow everywhere. River looks to be slushed up good to. Got to love winter.
Nick AltavillaPosts: 38April 5, 2023 at 5:49 pm #2193707Saw you guys catch that dandy eye right in front of us Mike! We were in the red and blue Lunds. Awesome day and first weekend on the water.
April 5, 2023 at 8:07 pm #2193753Glad you said hi Nick. We are headed back up after work tomorrow.
Shoot me a call when your up Mike. Let’s catch a beer, I owe you one or 5
April 6, 2023 at 7:09 am #2193809The river is pure slush this morning. We won’t be fishing today but the looks of it.

Let’s see that interior setup! I have a 5 sided hub, but thinking of going bigger for this very reason. Perfect for fall trips, ice camping and now the rainy river!
fishingadam54Posts: 56April 6, 2023 at 6:17 pm #2194040How difficult would it be to launch a boat solo right now? I’ve got a 18′ Tyee on a roller trailer. Is there enough shore ice gone to beach the boat while I park the truck? Coming up Tuesday & Wednesday and all my fishing partners are busy

I am in the same predicament. I was hoping to come up on Wednesday and fish Thursday and Friday. Unless someone from IDO wants to jump in the boat with me.
April 6, 2023 at 9:15 pm #2194113As of last Sunday, there was plenty of area to beach on. If the river comes up about 6-8” then it will be challenging with the ice lip. Was no problem for me by myself.
This was the birchdale access. Can’t speak to the others.
Walleyeguy34Posts: 173April 7, 2023 at 7:23 am #2194140Temps are up to zero so far this morning in Baudette. No wind last night. We don’t plan on getting to the ramp til late morning. Got a feeling we will be busting ice today.
Birchdale has a few spots to beach a boat. The other landing you are going to deal with shore ice. That might get better next week.
April 8, 2023 at 11:16 am #2194481Hey BC,
You able to get a line wet yet?Yes. We ended up going in and and fishing Thursday night.
April 8, 2023 at 12:51 pm #2194493They make boat Aluminum boat cleaner. Just saying
4 hours of slushy snowy roads made everything filthy
April 9, 2023 at 6:59 am #2194592Slow bite for us so far up here. Think we caught 45 two days ago. 25 yesterday. The ice from Thursday has pretty much moved out. River was a mess to fish good part of that day. Vidas ramp is still locked up. Lines are long at the boat ramps but it’s always that way. Did get our lines clipped twice yesterday by passing boats. Thought about letting the second one spool me but then decide to snap it. Guessing the bite should only get better as the weather is fantastic. Good luck to those getting out.
April 9, 2023 at 8:07 am #2194599Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Mike. Gonna try to get up there midweek.
fishingadam54Posts: 56April 9, 2023 at 10:17 am #2194627Pretty decent water clarity. Boat waves are stirring it up a little. Some grass in the water.
