The dam has been opened a bit further. It is now discharging almost twice the water per day as it was last year at this time (not sure if the guy who made that decision last year is still employed).

Anyway, I typically think 8-10k CFS is around normal for this time of year, and it’s running around 13k right now vs. 7k on average last year.

With any warm weather at all, we should start to see some solid progress.

I’m still guessing some boats will be sliding in this weekend.

Hope you’re right but that might be pushing it. Lots of snow on the ice still and more on the way.

It’s going to be a bit before bigger rigs are launched

It’s definitely moved some. About a week ago it was at Indus. Much closer to Birchdale now.

What web sight do you use to get the color shading you have?

Never been that far up. Can you get big boats in at that ramp

If it’s shoveled, yes. It’s pretty steep and a rather long ramp compared to the others on the river. Not very confident that the fish make it up that far ever. I am sure there are resident fish in that stretch though.

Never know, Target Walleye email this week had a tagged walleye that travelled 60 miles on Lake Diefenbaker and they did a telemetry study on Lake Erie and had walleyes travelling about 300 miles!

We have spent some time fishing up there in the spring and always caught eater size river fish. I have not saw any lake fish up that far. Pelland is fine for larger boats but is steep and not always friendly to pull into shore.

Good to see a few boats are going in on the Rainy. Time to clean out the truck and boat then repack them for the trip.

Jenn from the Dutchman posted some pics and an update on FB.
Canadian side is open past Franz. So with the sun and decent temps it shouldn’t be long now.

I tried posting the link but my posts aren’t actually posting.

You can go to ge.ssec.wisc.edu and then click on Modis Today link on the home page. From there you can click on Minnesota and it will isolate to that sector. I use the following settings: Terra, False Color, 250m and uncheck state borders. Sometimes, I have to choose Aqua to get that days picture. I’m assuming it’s two different satelites and Terra doesn’t always make this pass?

This picture was posted by the Dutchman on FB. It’s 1 mile west of Birchdale.

Lows for Baudette are single digit most of this week and near zero some nights. That’s a little too cold for my liking in a boat gonna have to wait for better temps.

Those are perfect conditions to keep the crowds home

Keepers guide service just posted that there is open water to mile marker 152. That’s 7 miles from Frontier. They also posted the rumor is out there that the county will open up the landing at Birchdale on Monday.

I am insanely busy at work right now. The only way I could go is on the weekends till towards the end of season.

Good luck to all those that head up there in the very near future.

I’m already seeing rain in the extended forecast to. Might be a very short window again this year.

I’m not thinking my timing is going to work out if the rain comes

    Why, because of the forks?

I don’t see any rain in the forecast for Baudette. I don’t really see anything above freezing on the 10 day either

    Why, because of the forks?

Yes the forks. Once things start moving along quickly with any form of rain and warmer weather the forks will let out quickly.
