Any new updates? Would like to go this year but have to see if the cards line up.
March 20, 2023 at 5:02 pm #2189931Might line up decent for that first week of April then. But still hard to tell!!
Uncle RicoPosts: 8March 21, 2023 at 2:41 pm #2190143The dam has been opened a bit further. It is now discharging almost twice the water per day as it was last year at this time (not sure if the guy who made that decision last year is still employed).
Anyway, I typically think 8-10k CFS is around normal for this time of year, and it’s running around 13k right now vs. 7k on average last year.
With any warm weather at all, we should start to see some solid progress.
March 21, 2023 at 4:32 pm #2190198I’m still guessing some boats will be sliding in this weekend.
Hope you’re right but that might be pushing it. Lots of snow on the ice still and more on the way.
March 21, 2023 at 8:19 pm #2190251Talked to a guy today that drove and checked and nothing moving yet
March 21, 2023 at 8:31 pm #2190259It’s going to be a bit before bigger rigs are launched

What web sight do you use to get the color shading you have?
Jason Groll posted a video of fishing on open water after launching at Pelland.
March 23, 2023 at 8:19 am #2190600Never been that far up. Can you get big boats in at that ramp
If it’s shoveled, yes. It’s pretty steep and a rather long ramp compared to the others on the river. Not very confident that the fish make it up that far ever. I am sure there are resident fish in that stretch though.
March 23, 2023 at 12:22 pm #2190716We have spent some time fishing up there in the spring and always caught eater size river fish. I have not saw any lake fish up that far. Pelland is fine for larger boats but is steep and not always friendly to pull into shore.
March 23, 2023 at 5:27 pm #2190829Good to see a few boats are going in on the Rainy. Time to clean out the truck and boat then repack them for the trip.

Canadian side is open past Franz. So with the sun and decent temps it shouldn’t be long now.rschmidtyPosts: 173March 24, 2023 at 8:49 am #2190953<div class=”d4p-bbt-quote-title”>rschmidty wrote:</div>

I tried posting the link but my posts aren’t actually posting.
You can go to ge.ssec.wisc.edu and then click on Modis Today link on the home page. From there you can click on Minnesota and it will isolate to that sector. I use the following settings: Terra, False Color, 250m and uncheck state borders. Sometimes, I have to choose Aqua to get that days picture. I’m assuming it’s two different satelites and Terra doesn’t always make this pass?
Michael BestPosts: 1201March 25, 2023 at 1:00 pm #2191196This picture was posted by the Dutchman on FB. It’s 1 mile west of Birchdale.
Jason Groll posted a video this morning with open water out in front of Birchdale.Attachments:
March 25, 2023 at 2:42 pm #2191205Any fishing reports yet? I’m working on getting my boat ready to go.

March 26, 2023 at 9:20 am #2191267I was planning on heading up Wednesday and staying till mid next week but due to other plans I’m hoping to head up next Monday or Tuesday and stay the week. Mike keep me posted
March 26, 2023 at 9:48 am #2191272Lows for Baudette are single digit most of this week and near zero some nights. That’s a little too cold for my liking in a boat gonna have to wait for better temps.

Those are perfect conditions to keep the crowds home
Michael BestPosts: 1201March 26, 2023 at 11:43 am #2191286Keepers guide service just posted that there is open water to mile marker 152. That’s 7 miles from Frontier. They also posted the rumor is out there that the county will open up the landing at Birchdale on Monday.
I am insanely busy at work right now. The only way I could go is on the weekends till towards the end of season.
Good luck to all those that head up there in the very near future.
March 26, 2023 at 12:32 pm #2191291I’m already seeing rain in the extended forecast to. Might be a very short window again this year.
March 26, 2023 at 1:38 pm #2191298I’m not thinking my timing is going to work out if the rain comes
March 26, 2023 at 2:17 pm #2191305I don’t see any rain in the forecast for Baudette. I don’t really see anything above freezing on the 10 day either
March 26, 2023 at 2:26 pm #2191306Why, because of the forks?
Yes the forks. Once things start moving along quickly with any form of rain and warmer weather the forks will let out quickly.
