Rainy River above the dam

Probably not the correct place for this but I figured the most people would see it here. Has anyone tried fishing the river above the dam or out into Sand Bay this time of year? I know the river down stream gets all the attention and the crazy crowds. So much open water above the dam and out into the bay has me thinking there has to be fish somewhere out there too? Would be cool to catch some fish, even if it’s not the same big numbers and size as down stream. Would also be nice to have a fish fry at the end of the day. Curious to see what everyone thinks.

That would have been my guess but I was curios.

Evidently according to the MN regs Rainy Lake is open till 4-14-24 being a Canadian border water. And above the dam you can even keep fish not like below the dam which is catch and release currently.
