The weather got cold -25 this morn ,but the fishing continues to be fair with walleye’s being caught in Sand bay off Birch point. The bite has been best early morn or late evening.
There are some nice crappies being caught on the American side, drilling lots of holes and moving around seems to be the key.
The ice conditions are good .

Never been up in the winter before. What’s the travel like this year? Vehicle or need a sled?

Been talking to my fishing partner about doing a winter camping / fishing trip. Not the first time we’ve talked but maybe we’ll get off our butts and pull the trigger this season

    thanks.

Ice conditions are good, either truck or sled .With that being said you better know the lake if your are planning to drive a truck around , as long as you stay on the plowed roads you will be fine.Sleds give you more options and a little safer in my opinion.Rainy is a big lake and it has a currant.Places to avoid are any neck down areas, the Brule narrows for sure.I think it’s just a matter of using common sense.
Rainy is a beautiful lake winter or summer ,I have fished all over Minnesota,South Dakota and North West Ontario,I believe Rainy is one of the best drive to lakes in the country. Its the only lake I know that on any cast you can catch a trophy walleye, northern pike or bass. With today’s electronics it really makes it easy to fish.

Thanks BB2. Couldn’t agree more about how great Rainy is. I’ve got about 10 years hitting the North Arm in open water and my partner has 30+. That said, I’ve never come up in the winter.

    Hopefully this is the year!
