We are trying to plan an extended family houseboat vacation for this summer. After taking everyone’s schedules into consideration we are looking at the 3rd week of June or the week of July 4th. Probably 5 nights on the house boats. Given that timeframe, would you go to Rainy Lake or Vermillion? Getting people on fish will be our priority. We will have the full range of ages and abilities. Which week and destination would you pick?

Never been up to rainy but my wife’s family has a cabin on lake vermillion and I see houseboats all the time it looks like a riot.usualy if you find a couple humps or work a windy shoreline you can find some fish. Lighted slip bobber in the evening on the humps. Good luck on you search.
Depends if you want solitude, peace and quite to the extreme (Rainy) or a little less of that but more bars, restaurants, a casino, and pleasure boaters? We go to Rainy around that time every year on a Rainy Lake houseboat and it is always great. The fishing varies, but scenery and solitude are always excellent.
If you haven’t booked already i would say scratch the week of the 4th. Most resorts are full years ahead of time over the holidays. A quick call would confirm it if true.
