    Rainy Lake – 10/2 thru 10/5
Made our 2nd annual trip to Rainy, we stayed at the Thunderbird and only fished on the MN side. Overall, this trip was better that last year (in regard to the fishing).

Arrived at 7AM on Thursday (10/2) and was out on the lake by 8AM. It was a great day, calm winds and low 50’s so we got ot explore some areas we couldnt last year (due to wind) out on the main lake. Ended up having a pretty good day boucing around on the reefs and caught just as many slot fish as under slot fish.

Friday was a much different story, very windy from the west which made every spot that we knew of unfishable. It was also a constant rain and 37 to 39 degrees. We called it a day by 2PM (started at 8) without much to show. Tried a few new spots by looking at the LakeMaster chip and hoping the be as out of the wind as we could.

The wind shifted a little on Saturday (didnt calm down much) but it made one of our spots fishable. We stay there all day and it truned out pretty well with good numbers of eaters and a few slots mixed in. We did see a few snow flakes while out there too.

Sunday, the wind continued and shifted slightly again. We were able to hit a couple spots that were out of the wind as much as possible. Had similiar results to Saturday

The overall bite seemed decent, it was just finding a spot that was fishable.

My hat is off to you for getting out that Saturday and Sunday. It takes more than Gore Tex to get out on days like that.

Thanks for the report. I had to cancel my annual fall trip up that way so it’s nice to read about others having success.
